Edgerton Headstones

Edgerton Headstones

These came from James McDonald. First is the headstone of John Edgerton (b 1691), in Old Norwichtown Burial Ground, Norwichtown, Connecticut. It says: "Here Lies the Body of/-- John Edgerton of/Norwich who died/Feb 15 1768 aged/77 years He..." I can't make out the rest of it. Then is that of Phebe consort to John Edgerton, also in Old Norwichtown Burial Ground. Her headstone reads: "Here is interred the/Body of Phebe late/Consort of Mr. John/Edgerton Norwich who/died July 29 1763 in/the 63 year of her age".

The pix below came from Mark Armstrong. "My recent move to Tulsa, OK took me through Cattaraugus County, New York, so I stopped at Dayton and was able to get some photos of the Edgerton and Leonard family plots at Cottage Cemetery. The cemetery (located on County Rd. 57 on the east side of Dayton, aka. Cottage) was in quite good condition and appears to be still in use."

"HIRAM EDGERTON / DIED / May 30, 1871 / AGED / 70 Yrs 10 Ms 2 Ds"
"LOUISA / wife of / Hiram / EDGERTON / DIED / July 20, 1841 / AE. 37 y's 2 m. / & 5 days."

Here is a photo from Bob Glazier, 7/19/12, of the Glazier family at the dedication and blessing of the Frank W Edgerton grave marker on June 16, 2012. Leigh (who seems to be in back, second from the left) is the grand niece of Frank. Episcopal Priest Rev. Michael Carney said the blessing. The grave marker was supplied by the Veterans Administration. Frank is also on Find a Grave. Bob says he has traced the Edgertons back to Robert Bulkeley born 1193.
