THE FAY FAMILY HOMEPAGE GENEALOGIES |
David Fay of Cazenovia and Rochester, NY Son of Stephen Fay of Bennington, VT And his Descendants |
|
Orlin doesn't seem to know a lot about David and Lucinda. He does know that David settled in Cazenovia, and later moved to Rochester. The histories of Cazenovia and Madison County mention both David and his brother Asa among the earliest settlers. The census records of 1820, 1830 and 1840 show David's family in Nelson, which was set off from Cazenovia in 1805. It is not clear when he moved to Rochester; he and Lucinda are there in 1850, living with Henry. |
Orlin's information on David's descendants is very meager. He knows the names of five children, but knows nothing of two of them and little of the other three. Orlin knows only that Jackson resided in Canada (at some point), and Henry in New York. And Orlin knows only the details of John J's death in 1849. Other than that, Orlin gives no dates and no other information. Gordon Young, a descendant of this line, was able to supply a great deal more information, especially about Jackson. |
It is Gordon who supplied the middle name of "Col John J."; I have not seen it given elsewhere. Gordon also gave the 1824 birthdate for Jackson S., but has a note that one entry looks like 1821. Detailed comparison of the household as given in the census of 1830 and 1840 does not provide much information at all, although it might be used to support Susan's birth about 1810, Rebecca's about 1812, and Sarah's about 1823. The census of 1850 gives Henry's birthdate as 1805; this would make him the oldest son, unless John J. was older. And where does Leonard fit? Were David and Lucinda really married in 1803? There are too many questions to be confident about any of these dates. In addition, "Jedediah" is unknown outside of Orlin. He was not listed in Gordon's original list, nor has he been found elsewhere so far as I know. |
