Salmon was the youngest child of Edward Fay and Sarah Joslin. Edward and Sarah had moved from Southborough, MA, to Stafford, Tolland County, CT, some time between 1747 and 1749. While Edward and Sarah remained in Connecticut, Salmon moved north into western Massachusetts, and settled around Cummington, where, on September 16, 1784, he married Azubah Packard, the daughter of John Packard Jr. and Sarah Hammond. |

The first two children, Clarissa and Silence, were born in Plainfield, Berkshire Co., in 1785 and 1787. After that, Salmon moved north to Jericho, Vermont, and his next nine children were born in Jericho, beginning with Sarah in 1789. "Salmon Fay" appears in the list of heads of house in the census of 1790 in Jericho. |

I myself have not been able to confirm an 1808 birth, that of Electa. |

The following overview of the descendants of Salmon and Azubah is a composite; it has been put together from various trees and from research using early texts and census records. |
