Polly Fay (7/23/1784 - 12/28/1843) And her Descendants |
Polly Fay (according to one source, Polly Lewis Fay) was born July 23, 1784, in Stafford, Connecticut. She was the daughter of David Fay (born in Stafford, CT, on February 3, 1762), and Mercy Perrin. There she met and married Almarin Janes on December 1, 1803. He was a descendant of William Bradford, Mayflower member and Governor. |
see David and Mercy's page |
Almarin Janes was a soldier of the war of 1812, and was appointed for a time to arrest deserters. From one of his last visits home, as he was traveling on duty, he returned to camp, and early in the morning a part of the army marched into the deserted fort to take possession, and Almarin Janes was among the hundred that were blown to atoms, by the cunning of British treachery, 5 May, 1813. [From "The Janes Family" page 197] |
Polly was left with five daughters, the youngest of whom was a baby. Some years later, after the death of his first wife on April 1, 1823, she married Samuel O. Wilcoxon, who had young children; her own were much older by then. There is no evidence that she and Samuel had children together, although it is certainly possible. [Note that his last name is spelled about six different ways in the records.] |
