Lucius Newton Fay (4/21/1823 - 3/15/1890) was born and lived in Massachusetts; he died at the home of his son Harrison in Ilion, New York. He married Cornelia Elizabeth Chapman (9/6/1827 - 1908) on October 10, 1847 in Somers, Tolland County, CT.

Newspaper Obituary of Harrison C. Fay

Harrison C. Fay, former Ilion village trustee, died June 19, 1945 at his home 30 Shull Street, after a long illness.

Mr. Fay was born in East Brookfield, Mass., the son of Lucius and Cornelia Chapman Fay. He came to Ilion in 1889, where he married Sarah E. Steele on Jan. 1, 1890.

He was an engineer for many years in Remington Rand and Remington Arms plants, and a member of the First Baptist Church for 50 years. He was also a member of the Ilion Lodge 591 F&AM.

Mr. Fay leaves five sons: Hamilton, a member of the Board of Education; Harrison, Elvin, and Frederick., all of Ilion, and, Leslie, Pensacola, Fla., and 16 grandchildern and four great- grand children.

The funeral will be at 2;30 P.M. Friday from the home, with the Rev. W. Ainslie officiating. Burial will be in the Armory Hill Cemetery.

Hamilton Fay, Metalurgist at Rand Plant

Ilion- Hamilton L. Fay, 60, of 9 Mauser Pl., died at his home yesterday.

He was a Metalurgist at the Remington Rand plant. A Veteran of World War I and a Member of the American Legion and had served two terms on the board of education and was active in Masonry in the Ilion area.

Born Nov. 7, 1890, in Ilion, he was the son of Harrison C. and Sarah E. Steele Fay. He had been a resident of Ilion all his life. He was a graduate of Ilion High School and Colgate University, class of '15.

He married Joanne Burrill in Ilion May 31, 1919.

Fay was a member of the Baptist Church, where he had served as trustee, and Ilion Lodge 591 F&AM of which he at one time had been secretary. He was a member of the Iroquois Chapter RAM and the Remington Rand Foremans Club.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Worthington, Woodbury, N.J.; a son, Burrill, Ilion; his mother and four brothers, Stuart, Alvin, Frederick, all of Ilion; and Leslie, Sarasota, Fla.

The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Whiter Funeral Home. The Rev. Stanley Thomson will officiate. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery.

FUNERAL HELD

Ilion--Funeral services were held this afternoon from the Whiter Funeral Home for Hamilton L. Fay, 60, of 9 Mauser Pl., who died at his home, Dec. 23, 1950.

Mr. Fay was a metallurgist at the Remington Rand plant. A veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion, he had served two terms on the board of education and was active in Masonry in the Ilion area.

ILION-- Mrs. Mary P. Fay, 71, of 62 Spruce St., died this morning in Mohawk Valley General Hospital.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1905, in Ilion, the daughter of John and Ernestine Niener Phillips, and educated in Ilion schools. She was married to Elvin (Duke) Fay in 1928 in in Ilion. Mr. Fay died in December 1963. She had resided in Ilion all her life.

They operated the Black and White resturant in Ilion Gorge.

Mrs. Fay was a member of the Ilion Presbyterian Church, and a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, John C. of Ilion; two daughters, Mrs. Calvin (Mary) May of Cobelskill, and Mrs. Robert (Ernestine) Johnson, of Herkimer; ten grandchildren; one greatgrandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Applegate Funeral Home, with the Rev. Maurice Mitchell, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The Ilion American Auxiliary will meet at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, to conduct their services.

Ilion-- Frederick C. Fay, 83, of Prindle Apts., died January 12, 1986 in (Mohawk Valley General Hospital) MVGH.

He was born March 6, 1903 in Ilion, and was the son of Harrison C. and Sarah Steele Fay. He attended Ilion schools and graduated from Ilion High School in 1922. He also graduated from Bliss Electrical Engineering School in Washington, D.C. in 1926. He had the first licensed radio station in Ilion in 1921. He was married to Bertha E. Ferguson on January 18, 1928. He was past master and past trustee of the Ilion Lodge 591 F&AM and was a foreman for electrical assembly and motor repairs for Sperry Rand Corp. from 1940 to 1955. He was a partner in Chrysler and Fay Electric Motor Repair from 1955 to 1963. He lived in Burlington Flatts and was self employed and lived in Mohawk for 10 years and was self employed and moved to J.G. Prindle Apts. in 1979.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Elizabeth) Hansen, in Austin, Texas; a son Daniel H. Fay of Lowville, N.Y.; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marion) Schmock of Lake Park Fla., Mrs. Ruth Kinville of Frankfort (N.Y.) and Mrs. Harold (Ellen) Tatom of Shreveport, La.; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Whiter--Hendrix Funeral Home, Wednesday, Jan. 15, with the Rev.Leon Oaks-Lee, officiating, and interment will be in the Armory Hill Cemetary, in the spring. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m.Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Ilion.

A typo occurs in the original obit. The marriage date says June. January is the correct month. Also, LO should be LA for Louisiana.

Ilion-- Bertha E. Fay, 76, of 401 Prindle Apts., Ilion, passed away November 13 in Mohawk Valley General Hospital.

She was born May 13, 1906 in Ilion, and was the daughter of Daniel and Cora Carroll Ferguson. she was married to Frederick Fay January 18, 1928. She lived in Ilion most of her life except for seven years in Burlington Flats, and ten years in Mohawk. She was a graduate of Ilion High School and School of Commerce, and was a bookkeeping clerk for the Remington Arms and also for Prime Cleaners of Ilion, retiring several years ago.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a past Deaconess of the church; also was a former Treasurer of Burlington Flats Baptist Church and a 50 year member of the Evening Star Chapter # 82.

She is survived by her husband; one son,Daniel of Lowville; five daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Elizabeth) Hanson of Conroe, Texas, Mrs. Harry (Joanna) Rowell of RD 3 Frankfort, Mrs. Robert (Marion) Schmock of Lake Park Fla., Mrs. Ruth Kinville of Ilion and Mrs. Harold (Ellen) Tatom of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Harold Ferguson of Bloomville and Lawerence Ferguson of Ilion; one sister, Mrs. Gladys Craig of Downsville, N.Y.; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held from Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, 1 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be Armory Hill Cemetary. Calling hours will be from 2:30-4:30 on Monday and 7-9 Monday evening. Memorials may be made to the Bertha Fay Memorial Fund of the Ilion Baptist Church.

Joseph 'Joe' Kinville, age 66, died June 5, 1999, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Joe was born October 16, 1932, in Ilion, the son of Joseph and Genevieve Rice Kinville. He was a member of the IHS Class of 1952. He served his country with the US Navy from 1952-1956. He married Ruth Fay, the mother of his children. Joe later married Patricia 'Pat' Young, in 1981, in Ilion. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. for 34 years. He retired as a foreman in the gas department in 1990. After his retirment, he later worked part-time at the Ni-Mo auctions in Rome. He was a former elected trustee for the Village of Ilion from 1972 to 1976. He was one of the founders and coaches with the Ilion Pop Warner Football League. Survivors include his wife Pat; five daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Scott Krenichyn of Herkimer, Michelle and George Koury of New Hartford, Lori and Terry Tucker of Mohawk, Lynne and Rodney Von Packal of Clinton, Jolene and John Day of Ilion; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Patricia Kinville, of Ilion; two stepsons, Michael Young of NYC, and Donald Young and his wife Lynette of Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ruth Kinville of Keene, NH; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close friends. Funeral services are June 9, from the Church of the Annunciation, followed by interment in White Lake Cemetary. Funeral arrangements are by Applegate & Day Funeral Home. Donations may be made in Joe's memory to the Ilion Ambulance Fund. (June 7, 1999)

Two Biographies of RIMMON COLTON FAY

Rimmon C. Fay learned the machinist's trade, and has invented many new methods of doing by machinery what was formerly done by hand; has been superintendent in several large manufactories, and is at present superintendent of the Thomas Manufacturing Company of Springfield, O." Fay, Rimmon C., German Flats, superintendent of the Remington Armory, born in Ludlow, Mass., Aug. 6, 1848. After having received a liberal preliminary education he was employed for several years by the Colt's Patent Fire-Arms manufacturing Company of Hartford, Conn., as machinist, contractor and draughtsman. During this time he made complete sets of working drawings of the celebrated Gatling Machine Gun under the direction of the inventor Dr. Richard J. Gatling. He left Colt's Armory to enter the employ of the Fales and Jenks Machine Company at Pawtucket, R.I., as contractor on the well- known Rabbeth spindle, and remained there about seven years, when Mr. Rabbeth sold his interest in the spindle to The Hopedale Machine Company of Hopedale, Mass. Mr. Fay was then engaged by the Hopedale Machine Company to design the tools and fixtures required to manufacture the spindles there. After this was accomplished he was engaged for about two years manufacturing the spindles by contract, after which he was engaged as superintendent of the Hopedale Machine Company's entire works. After having served in this capacity for about four years he resigned the post on account of ill health. He next entered the employ of the Pratt & Whitney Company of Hartford, Conn., as designer and draughtsman of special machinery and also as a traveling salesman. He remained with this company until he was engaged July 1, 1888, by the Remington Arms Company as superintendent. Mr. Fay has taken out about twenty patents. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the leading mechanical engineering society in the United States. In 1870 Mr. Fay married Miss Izette Doane, of Brookfield, Mass., and they have a family of seven children. Mr. Fay's father was Lucius N. Fay, of Brookfield, Mass., and Mrs. Fay's father was Cheney Doane, of the same place, who was a cousin of Bishop William Croswell Doane, of Albany. Her grandfather was a drum-major in the Revolutionary War, and her uncle, Nathan Doane, was a drum-major in the war of 1812, both father and son using the same drum, the live oak shell of which is now in the possession of the G.A.R. Post of Worcester, Mass. Her grandfather was a lineal descendant of John Adams.
