John Francis Fay, 95, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at Lake Region Hospital. |

| He was born April 9, 1912, to Lewis E. and Elsie E. (Figy) Fay, in Witoka in Winona County. After his mother died when Jack was a few months old, he went to live with his mother�s adoptive parents. When he was 11 years old he returned to live with his father, Lewis and his step-mother, Mert. He attended grade school in Homer. He also attended one year of high school. |

| As a teenager, he worked a variety of different jobs , including Foss Candy Factory and for the King Family, at their Rockledge Estates. The King family started the Watkins Company. In 1937, he began his full-time employment with the Corps of Engineers, and worked for them until he retired in 1974. He worked at the Lock and Dam, outside of Winona, and later managed Orwell Dam in Fergus Falls. |

| In 1941, he entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II, in the South Pacific Theater, as a jungle fighter. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged after serving 52 months. |
|
| On May 24, 1941, he married Anna R. Boe, in Winona. |
|
| Anna died Dec. 23, 2000. |
|
| He was a member of First Lutheran Church, a life member of the VFW Post 612, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Pickwick Masonic Lodge, near Homer. |
|
| He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening in his younger life. Throughout his life, he enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends. He read the Bible daily. He loved playing cards, whether it was cribbage, whist, rummy or shanghi. And his mind was always sharp as a tack. We very seldom won at cards when playing against him. The last night we played cards was one week before he died. For the last three months he had been a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home and before that he had been at Broen Memoral Home. |

| Preceding him in death were his parents, Lewis and Elsie, his wife Anna, a son, John; his sister, Marian Benson; a half-brother Warren (Bud) Fay; a half-sister, Nellie Rohlfing; and a half-nephew, Peter Rohlfing. |
|
| His survivors include his daughter, Patricia Fay, Fergus Falls; his son, Robert (Ardell) Fay of Graham, Wash.; his grandchildren, Leroy (Laurie) Fay and Candy (Kurt) Wagner; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Fay and Logan Wagner; a half-sister-in-law, Marion Fay, and a half-niece Vickie (Neil) Monahan. |

| Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service. |

Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls |
