Guardianships for Jonathan and Louisa, minors over age 14 on 15 Jan 1821 to John Fay of Richmond. Guardianship for Laura Ann Fay over 14 years 16 Jan 1821 to John Fay of Richmond. Claims on the estate. [There is quite a long list, and some of the names may be transcribed incorrectly; the handwriting is a bit difficult in places. I have checked the ones I could in the census records of the time.]
   
   
Henry Fay's Estate
   
Be it remembered that at a Court of Probate holden at Burlington within and for the District of Chittenden on the 10th day of January A.D. 1821 before the Hon. Jabez Penniman Judge of said Court, came John Fay of Richmond in the County of Chittenden and presented to said Judge a certificate in writing as follows, towit,

} To the Hon. Jabez Penniman Judge of the Court of Probate
for the District of Chittenden
This certifies that Johnathan Fay & Louisa Fay, minors above the age of fourteen years, son & daughter of Henry Fay late of Richmond deceased personally appeared before me this 15th day of January A.D. 1821 and made choice of John Fay of Richmond to be their Guardian, the said minors living more than ten miles from the place of Holding your Court.

Whereupon said Judge appointed the said John Fay to be Guardian unto said Jonathan Fay minor as aforesaid who accepted said trust and with Artemas Flagg of [said] Richmond gave bonds in the sum of $1000 in due form of law to the acceptance of said Judge who thereupon issued Letters of Guardianship as follows towit,State of Vermont

Whereas Jonathan Fay now residing in Richmond a minor, and of lawful age for nominating and choosing a Guardian and hath this day,
nominated and chosen you the said John Fay as his guardian; and the appointing Guardians in such cases, and the hearing, examining and allowing the amounts of such Guardianship, by virtue of a law of this State in such cases provided, appertaining unto me:
Trusting, therefore, in your care and fidelity, I do by these presents allow you the said John Fay to be Guardian unto the said Minor, well and faithfully to perform and discharge that trust and Office unto the said minor, in and by all things according to law, and to render a plain and true account of your said Guardianship, upon oath, and all and singular such estate as shall come to your hand and possession by virtue thereof, a nd of the profits and improvements of the same, so far as the law will charge you therewith, when you shall be therunto lawfully required and shall pay and deliver what and so much of the said Estate as shall be found remaining, upon your account, the same being first examined and allowed by the Judge of the court of Probate for said District, for the time being unto the said minor, when he shall arrive at full age and otherwise as the said Judge

by his decree or sentence pursuant to law shall limit & appoint.
In testimony whereof I have caused the seal of the said Court of Probate to be hereunto affixed.

Jabez Penniman Judge of said Court, appointed John Fay of Richmond in the County of Chittenden to be guardian unto Laura Ann Fay a minor above the age of 14 years daughter of Henry Fay late of Richmond in said district deceased upon the certificate of her choice as the law directs who accepted said trust and with Artemas Flagg of [said] Richmond gave bonds in the sum of $500.00 in due form of law to the acceptance of said Judge who thereupon issued Letters of Guardianship for said minor as follows towit,State of Vermont

} At a Court of Probate holden at Burlington in and for the District of Chittenden on the 16th day of January A.D. 1821, Betsey Fay
administratrix and James Talcott Administrator on the Estate of Henry Fay late of Richmond in said District deceased having been cited to appear and render account of their administration appeared & presented the foregoing account to me the subscriber Judge aforesaid Court and after examination of the said account & the evidence in support of the same, I do allow and consent as stated and find a balance in favour of said Administrators against said Estate of one hundred eighteen dollars twenty three cents, and order that the same be recorded.
