Born in Richmond, Vermont, in 1819, Daniel moved with his family to Williston by 1840. In 1850 and 1860, he and Amelia are living in Williston, with sons Ransom and William E. In 1870, both boys are out of the house (Ransom was killed in the Civil War) and Daniel and Amelia now have a five year old daughter. Ellery is living next door with his wife and baby son.
The name of Daniel's second son is unusual. In Orlin, he is named "William Ellery Channing," and in his biography, he is called "Ellery Channing". In the census of 1850, he is listed as "William E." and in that of 1860, as "Wm." It is very unusual to have three names at that period and place. Where did the "Channing" come from?
The youngest child of Daniel and Amelia was born twenty years after her brothers. She married Clayton J. Wright, the twin brother of Clinton S. Wright, who had married her first cousin once removed, Abbie Fay, granddaughter of Roswell Bishop Fay, four years earlier. The two families lived together, being joined by Julia, daughter of Clinton and Abbie, born in 1908. Julia was the only child so far as we know. Odella and Abbie, although a generation apart, were only five years apart.
