Descendants of Charles Edward Fay

6th generation
Charles Edward b: 6/6/1835 d. before 1900
married July 7, 1857
Mary (Nancy) Emeline Thornton b: 5/9/1835

Charles and Mary were both born in New Hampshire. Orlin gives Mary's first name as Nancy, but she is listed as Mary in all of the census years, beginning in 1850 in her father's house and continuing through 1900. Charles and Mary were married in Lempster, NH, in July, 1857. By April, 1859, at the latest, they were in Illinois. Orlin includes a little information about the Illinois years.

The family stayed in Illinois for some years after Charles' death in 1868. Charles, Mary and Edward are listed in the census in Illinois in 1860; Mary remained there with her two sons in 1870 and 1880. Between 1880 and 1884 they moved to Minnesota.

Edward, the older son, married in Minnesota about 1884, had three children there between 1886 and 1889. Between 1889 and 1900 he moved to Dayton, Ohio.

Albert, the younger son of Charles and Mary, also seems to have married in Minnesota. We know that he had a son there, Albert Jr., in 1889. In 1900, he was a widower, and he, and his young son, were living with his mother, still in Minnesota.

Albert married a second wife, Emma Sidwell, about 1903. He had two children by her, both born in Minnesota. He and Emma both died in Minnesota, and are buried there.

Harold, the son of Albert and Emma, was born and died in Minnesota. I don't know whether he married. Lucille's married name was Lucile E. Kraft, and her birth and death are listed in the records of Minnesota, although not the marriage.

Albert Thornton Fay, Jr., the older son of Albert, usually used the name Thornton. Under this name, he is listed in the censuses of 1900, 1910 and 1930. He left Minnesota and moved to Wisconsin, where he is found in 1910. He seems to have married about 1910 or 1911 in Wisconsin. His second daughter was born in Wisconsin about 1916. Between then and 1918, he travelled from Wisconsin to Washington, where he was registered for the draft; his wife and small daughters remained in Wisconsin. By 1930, the family is together again in Oregon.

Robert, son of Edward Augustus, was born in 1887 in Minnesota. He was with his father in Ohio in 1900. By 1910, however, he had moved to Illinois, where he is found in 1918 and 1920; some time before 1930, he moved to Massachusetts. His wife was born in Wisconsin, his children in Illinois.
