Albert Fay, oldest son of Alvah, and Cynthia Hansen seem to have been married in Canada, and then to have come to the United States with Alvah and the younger children about 1853. They came from Canada to Wisconsin, and the first census record we have shows both families in Wisconsin in 1860. Donna is here listed as Madora D. Since she was born in WI, her birth date tells us by when they must have arrived. |
| From Wisconsin, the families moved to Minnesota. In 1870, we find them in Carlston, Freeborn County. |

| In 1885 Albert and his brother went to the Black Hills, liking what they found they returned for the family. Came by wagon train and trailed about 20 head of cattle. Homesteaded on Dry Creek southeast of the Game Lodge. Went into the livestock business wtih his son William 10 miles north of Fairburn in later years.

On Dry Creek, near Otis, Custer County, S.D., on Monday, July 4, Mr. Albert Fay, aged about 70 years.
Deceased was born in Canada in 1829, and came to this country when 25 years old. He came to Custer County in 1886, and took up a ranch on Dry Creek, where he had resided up to the time of his death. He leaves a wife and four children, two sons and two daughters, to mourn his loss. The remains were taken to Fairburn on Wednesday, where they were interred in the cemetery at that place. Dr. Crouter of Custer conducted the funeral services.

Mrs. Fay, who has resided in Custer County (South Dakota) for several years, died last week from effects of Cancer; age 70 years. Her children are Mrs. H. G. Clason (Alice), Will and Frank Fay, residing in this county, and Mrs. (Ben) Harvey (Donna) in Nebraska. Mrs. K. W. Powell conducted the funeral service. Deceased was buried in the Fairburn cemetery.
