Vause Family History

 

William Franklin Vause Jr. born March 27, 1917 in McMeekin, Putnam, , Florida, the son of William Franklin Vause Sr and Cinda Driggers Vause. He lived in Citronelle,Dunnellon,Istachatta,Hernando, and Inverness , Florida. He attended Inverness Elementary and High School, Joined the USMC in 1936. He served in the Panama Canal Zone and in Portsmith, N.H. He married Anne Foster , daughter of William Clinton Fosterand Ethel McClure on July 6, 1940 at Kittery, Maine. He was discharged from the USMC in 1940 and returned in 1942 to serve in the Pacific. After the war, he lived the rest of his life in Daytona Beach, Florida. He retired from the US Post Office after suffering a stroke in 1970.He loved to garden, raise bees, and chickens. He and Anne had three children; Gerald Franklin Vause, William Foster Vause , and Carol Anne Vause. Grandaddy "Bill" died in March of 1992.

William Franklin Vause Sr was born June 16, 1894 in McMeekin, Putnam, Florida the son of Caleb Franklin Vause, Jr. and Elizabeth Pearson. He married Cinda Lee Driggers on 2 November 1913 in Citronelle, Citrus, Florida. He and Cinda had five children: Lucile Cinda Vause Buie Normann,William Franklin Vause Jr., Leon Alonzo Vause,Eunice Virginia Vause Lee, and Barnard Gregory Vause. Great Grandaddy worked for and retired from the RR. Cinda was in a wheelchair for thirty years .

Caleb Franklin Vause Jr., was born 5 Jan, 1863 in McMeekin, Putnam, Florida the son of Caleb Franklin Vause Sr,and Emily McNabb. He was born after his father died in the Civil War. He married Elizabeth Pearson, daughter of John R Pearson and Margaret Elizabeth Potts, on November 16, 1891 . They lived in Archer, Alachua, Florida and are buried there. Their children were, Clarence Abbott Vause, William Franklin Vause Sr, Emily Vause (Slaughter), Margaret Elizabeth Vause(Sikes), Gregory Engram Vause,and Caleb Richard Vause.

C.F.Vause Jr.and Elizabeth Chandler Pearson Vause

Caleb Franklin Vause, Sr. was born Dec 26, 1833 in Williamsburg District, South Carolina, the son of Charles Engram Vauseand Sarah P White. He married 20 Oct 1859 Emily McNabbdaughter of J.G. and Elizabeth McNabb, in Putnam County, Florida. He served in Co. I, Regiment 7, Florida, Confederate Army and died in Knoxville, Tennessee . He is listed as one of 20 Florida soldiers buried at Bethel Cemetery,Knoxville.( Confederate Cemetery) . His name is listed as C. F. Vans . He died of Pneumonia.Dated is listed as 3--6- 1863. He and Emily had only two children, Sarah Elizabeth Vause Rountree and Caleb Franklin Vause, Jr. who was born while his father was serving in the Confederacy.

Charles Engram Vause , Sr, was born 20 Dec , 1804 in Lenoir County, North Carolina . He was married Sarah P White about 1825. He migrated to Florida about 1850 and settled in an area that is now Johnson, Putnam County, Florida. There is a Vause Lake, and other reminders of the pioneer Vause family still in the area. Charles Engram Vause and Sarah had eleven children, all listed as being born in Williamsburg District, S. C. They were:William James Vause born 1827, Rebecca Vause born 1828, Richard Morgan Vause born 1830, Margaret Ann Vause born 1832, Caleb Franklin Vause , Charles Engram Vause , Jr.born 1836, Daniel White Vause born 1838, Samuel Jesse Vause born 1840, John Dixon Vause, born 1843,Mary Jane Vause born 1845 ( married Samuel T. Jerkins a brother of Chip's Mom's GGG Grandmother, small world!) Sarah Johanna Vause born 1848, and Nancy Vause b 1850 ,age 20 on the 1870 census. Charles Engram Vause and Sarah are buried at Johnson Florida in a small Vause Cemetery in the woods.

The generations of Vauses before the migration to Florida have not been documented by me. They are from another Vause researcher .

James Vause, born 1782 in North Carolina was the son of Ephraim Vause (2) and ?. He married Charlotte Engram, born 1788 . They were married about 1803 in Lenoir County, North Carolina. He died in 1860 in South Carolina. There children were: Charles Engram Vause,Elizabeth Vause Conyers, George Washington Vause, Ephraim Vause,( who married Margaret Maria Revell and also migrated to Florida, settling in Wakulla County), Calvin Vause, Laney Vause Chandler.

Ephraim Vause born abt 1760 was the son of Thomas Vause and ?. Ephraim and William Vause only Vause family in N.C. on the 1790 Census.

Thomas Vause, born in 1740s was listed amongt 1st settlers in Kinston, N. C. in 1757. Thomas Vause was the only Vause listed in 1769 census for Dobbs County ( later Lenoir Co.)

Ephraim Vause, born abt 1718 married Theodocia Hulling , July 11, 1738 at the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. It is supposed that Ephraims forebearers were among the German Palatines from the banks of the Rhine and the Neckar, who entered the colonies through Delaware Bay in the early 1700's. In 1746 Ephraim had patented land in Augusta County on the Virginia Frontier. His name first appears in the Augusta County Deed Books in Jan 1746 when he received a grant of 200 Acres . The site of Old Fort Vause known today in Shawsville, Montgomery County, Virginia.
