It was a bowling alley , and it faced thompson . I was a pin setter
there
in the late 40's.
It was quite a hangout back then, and into the 50s ,dance bands and
such.

It was a bowling alley. I worked there for a few weeks back in
1945. It was a very nice place and about 20 alleys as I recall.
If I remember correctly it burned down sometime in the late
sixties or early seventies. At the time I worked there Henry Tuck
was the owner of it.

Yes, I know it well. It was the scene of a shoot-out at l:52 a.m.
on Dec. 7, 1950 between members of the Saginaw Police Dept. and a
paroled ex-con, Larry Nelson. Nelson escaped from there but returned
the next night to the Bancroft Hotel. An attempt to arrest him was
made by Capt. Dan Waters and Sgt. Clarence Dietzel of the Saginaw
Police Dept. A shooting ensued then and both Waters and Dietzel were
killed an a Parole Officer was wounded. Nelso was also wounded and
later died of his injuries. It was a dark day for the Saginaw Police
Dept. It began in the entrance of the Recreation Center. - F. Coats
