1597 - Parchment books used. Copies of parish registers sent yearly to bishop.
1642-1660 - Commonwealth period - records are irregular.
1733 - Parish records required to be in English (previously latin).
1754 - Lord Hardwick's act - marriages outside the C of E are illegal (except Quakers and Jews)
1778 - End of Penal Laws - Many Catholic registers date from this time.
1812 - George Rose act - separate standardized registers for baptisms, marriages and deaths.

March 1866 - All records were typeset (previously most were hand written).

July 1910 - First forename in full initials for other forenames.
Sep 1911 - Mother's maiden name recorded.
