Brody Info |
Over the course of generations the family name has been spelt as
BRODIE, BROADIE, BRODY and BROADY, today we find the
original spelling of BRODIE and BROADY throughout
Norfolk. The family tree and history has been carefully
researched by a number of people, but we still have a few gaps to
fill, but with a little help we may be able to complete the picture. |
Cushing Family |
The remote ancestry of the CUSHING family has been the
subject of a number of investigations, which have succeeded in
tracing the family to very early times. The first work of importance
was undertaken by the Hon. Caleb CUSHING. He traced the
family to Norfolk County, England; and finding himself unable to
give the necessary time to the research, engaged the late H . G.
Somerby of London, a well known genealogist, to continue it. Mr.
Somerby entered on the task with enthusiasm, as evidenced by his
letters, some of which are in the writer's possession. During the
years 1851-1853 he examined the ancient manuscripts in the British
Museum, the Subsidy Rolls and Heraldic Visitations for Norfolk, the
parish registers and ancient deeds and wills connected with various
estates and manors in Hardingham, Hingham, and other places. His
efforts were crowned with unexpected success; he established the
fact that the CUSHINGs were one of the leading families in
Norfolk County during the 15th and 16th centuries, being lords of
numerous manors, and he published his results in several important
papers before historical and genealogical societies in Great
Britain. |

The Ripley Family |
In1574, William RIPLEY( glover) married Margaret THOMSON
at Wramplingham,Norfolk. The glover appears as a "selected
person" (what does it exactly means?) in a 1577 muster roll of
Wramplingham, hundred or Forehoe. He also left a will dated Aug
31,1619, and was buried in Wymondham Jan 28,1620. His son
William RIPLEY was living with him in the same house in
Wymondham, where his 4 children where baptized between 1621 and
1627. I did not find a trace of his marriage and do not know
the name of his wife, who is probably the one who accompanied him
and the 4 children in the voyage to New Hingham, Massachussets in
1638. |
