St. James church has Norman herringbone masonry surviving in the south wall of the nave; otherwise the church is mainly 14th C, restored in 1860 by G. Row Clarke who rebuilt the chancel, added the south porch and north vestry and remodelled the north aisle. The church has an embattled 14th C west tower with diagonal buttresses, a north east stair and a spire. On the pedestal of the font are the heads of a King, Queen, Bishop and Rector. There is some 1870 stained glass in the church by Alexander Gibbs; as well as some attractive contemporary windows. The grand monument is to William Horton who died in 1612. It has kneeling effigies of his family in painted stone, with heraldry.
