ALLIBONE Memorial from Pillerton Hersey, Warwickshire
Parish Church of St. Mary
William ALLIBONE
Here lies old William Allibone
Our venerable wheelwright gone
Oft as each Christian fell studios
He shaped each homely shell
To order of the tolling bell
And each poor soul he gently gave
With slackened cordage to the grave
Foremost in many a funeral throng
Himself resolved in mercy long
Say shall the tombstone tell his praise
And vaunt him marvel of his days
Or shall it sorrowing confess
Our best alas but worthlessness
And trust the Saviour to atone
For sins unconquered faults unknown
For faith unfinished works undone
By poor old William Allibone
