Banbury in the Coaching Days

Having just read the 46 pages of William Potts book "Banbury in the Coaching Days" I can only say it was a lovely insight into 19th century life in Banbury with reference to the introduction of not only the penny black stamp and mail, but also the arrival of the canal system and railways in Banbury as well.

I enjoyed reading about life as a Guard on the coaches and some of the conditions they had to put up with. Some of the bad weather they experienced made life very difficult, especially for the coaches and waggons with no tarmaced roads, only muddy lanes and deep ruts filled with water. A refreshing little read, much enjoyed and recommended to those with Banbury ancestry.
