About Wallace Raymond Hayman Jr:
CHICORA -- Mr. Wallace R. Hayman Jr. was a second-generation employee in the mining industry and spent
all of his working life in that field.
"He spent most of his time at IMC as a supervisor at the
sulfuric acid plant," said his wife of 54 years, Rita Dunford Hayman.
The retired supervisor
at the IMC New Wales plant died of heart failure Monday (Nov. 3, 2003) at Lakeland Regional Medical
Center. He was 75.
Born in Fort Meade on April 23, 1928, his education was interrupted when he
joined the Navy, serving in Hawaii for two years. "He came back and got his diploma," Rita Hayman said.
"He graduated from Mulberry because his father worked in the mines, too."
The couple married
shortly after he returned to the area.
Mr. Hayman worked for a few area mining companies, including
Brewster, before retiring as a supervisor 14 years ago from IMC New Wales, where he had been employed
for 15 years.
His hobbies included fishing, race cars and spending time with his granddaughters
and great-grandson, all of whom live in the area.
"He loved his family and friends. He wouldn't
tell you often that he loved you, but he did many things to prove that he loved you," Rita Hayman said.
In
addition to his wife, Mr. Hayman is survived by his daughters, Cindy Giallombardo, Chicora, Debby Doremus,
Lakeland; brother, Bill Hayman, Umatilla; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons.
