Henke, Gus H. of 930 E 49-1/2 St., Austin. Age 81. Died 4/1972 (Tuesday) in a local (Austin) hospital.
Services held (Thursday) at Hyltin-Manor Funeral Home. Burial in Capital Memorial Gardens. Pastor
Robert J. Adix officiated. He was born 5/24/1890. Before moving to Austin in 1939, he was manager
of the grocery department of the Thorndale Mercantile Co. Next, he was a partner in the drug business
with Martin Moerbe at Eagle Pharmacy from 1933-1939. Moved to Austin in 1930 and was a groceryman for
John Bremond Co. and Checker Front Stores. He was employed by the State Treasury Department for 10
years before his retirement. Member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and resident of Austin for 33 years.
Survivors: Wife, Mrs. Louis K. Henke of Austin; 2 sons, Floyd a Henke of Austin and Capt. Alvin E
Henke with the Navy in Brunswick, Ga,; daughter, Mrs. Eileen Jackson of Houston; 5 grandchildren and
9 great-grandchildren.

St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Austin. Burial in Memorial Park. Wilke-Clay Funeral Home of Austin
in charge of arrangements. She was born 11/12/1894 and lived for many years in Thorndale, where she
reared her family to adulthood. Survivors: Daughter, Mrs. Eileen Jackson of New Braunfels; son Alvin
E. Henke of Austin; sister, Mrs. Hilda Loehr of Bay St Louis, Miss., 5 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.
