About Susie Mae Tyler:
Rockdale Reporter, Thur., 12 June 2003 Funeral services for Susie Mae Garner, 77, were held at 2
p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Doug Springer of Rockdale
Full Gospel officiating. Burial followed in the Eagle Cemetery near Rockdale. She died Thursday, June
5, 2003 at the Pine Shadow Retreat in Porter.
Mrs. Garner, a Porter resident the past three and
a half years, formerly a Houston resident for 54 years, was raised in the Rockdale area. She was born
Oct. 10, 1925 in the Eagle Community, near Rockdale, to John William and Annie Mae (O'Bier) Tyler.
Mrs.
Garner was married to Millard Eugene Garner Sr. She attended Eagle School, graduated from Rockdale High
School and was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church in the Forest Grove Community. Mrs. Garner
had attended the Lakewood Church in Houston for 20 years and was a volunteer worker at Lakewood Church
as a prayer worker. She worked for Southern Pacific Railroad in Houston for 43 years as an accountant
at the freight station.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Millard Garner Sr.; son, Millard
Garner Jr.; sister, Lucille Holliman; and her parents.
Surviving are: Brothers, Dan Tyler of
Houston and Johnnie Milton Tyler of Lexington; sister, Tommie Nell Roach of Porter; daughter-in-law,
Renee Garner of Glendale, AR; three grandsons and three step-grandsons.
