Last rites for William Eugene Brister were conducted from the Nations Poplar Creek Church at 4 pm July 9. Rev. J.A. Wade of Slate Springs, Rev. A.L. Halton of Kilmichael & Rev. Harry Kellogg of Indianola officiating. Mr. Brister died at the Kilmichael Hospital July 8 after a lenthy illness. Mr. Brister was born at Poplar Creek, Aug. 26, 1880. He served as supervisor of both Beat 4 & 5.

He is survived by his wife of Kilmichael; 3 daughters, Mrs Elbert Mitchell, Winona; Mrs. Noel Barrett, Indianola; Mrs. Henry Williams, Mathiston; 3 sons, Weldon Brister, James Brister & Milton Brister; 1 brother, Sam Brister & 12 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren.

About Hattie Purvis:

Hattie was the daughter of William and Pernicia Purvis. William was born in North Carolina. His family moved to Choctaw County, MS in the 1840's and were farmers. They were members of Milligan Springs Church. In fact, Williams's mother Charity and his brother Kincheon were founding members. William married Pernecia in the 1870's and they had three daughters, Bena, Hattie and Homer, and one son Fred. After William died Pernecia married Enoch Eiland around 1891.

Hattie did not marry until she married William E Brister around 1929. She had lived with her mother Pernecia, and in Jan 1929 her mother died. William E Brister had lost his wife in Oct 1928. He is buried by his first wife in Poplar Creek Nations Cemetery.
