About Harold Brogden:
TUSCALOOSA Harold Brogden, age 72, of Tuscaloosa, died May 13, 2009, at Hospice of
West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Taylorville Baptist Church on Hwy. 69 South with Dr.
Curtis Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Magnolia Chapel Funeral
Home South directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. The body will lie in
state one hour prior to services at the church.
His parents, Sellers Tillman Brogden and Shirley
Eiland Brogden, and twin brother, Farrell Brogden, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his
beloved wife of 50 years, Doreen Silverman Brogden; his son, Gregg Brogden (Lyric); his sisters, Jean
Buchanan, Lenorah Gibbons, and Linda Palmer (Carl) of Huntsville, Ala.; sister-in-law, Jackie Sartain
(Jerry); brother, Robert (Bob) Brogden (Gaynell); numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and his little
four-legged friend, Sasha.
He was born, raised, and educated in Andalusia, Ala. He served in
the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence, where he was a member of the first crew
after the ship's commission. Mr. Brogden relocated to Tuscaloosa, Ala. in 1960. He was a man who touched
others with a kind word and a caring spirit, and loved his family fiercely. He will be missed by all
who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Brogden, Randy Sartain, Charles Creech, Douglas
Creech, Matthew Buchanan, Jeff Palmer, Tim Palmer, and David Palmer of Huntsville, Ala.
