Mrs. Hattie Garrett
Last rites for Mrs. Hattie Garrett, 62, who succumbed at the Winona Infirmary
Dec. 2nd., were conducted at the Nation Church, Friday afternoon, Dec. 3rd at 2 o'clock with her pastor,
Rev. J.M. Palmertree, assisted by Rev. John A. Wade of the Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was
in the church cemetery under the direction of Lee Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Jeff Chesteen,
Ford Garrett, Millard Garrett, William Garrett, Calvin Garrett & L.O Atkins. B.R. Crossley & Mr. &
Mrs. Kimbie Crossley, her nephews & noted musicians of Columbus, had charge of the music & sang several
appropropiate selections.
Mrs. Garrett, the daughter of the late Monroe & Minerva Franks Crossley,
was born in Alabama on March 29th, 1886. She was married to Albert M. Garrett who preceded her in death
about 13 years ago. She was a member of the primitive Baptist Church near Kilmichael.
Survivors
include 2 daughters, Miss Rema Garrett, a nurse at the Winona Infirmary, & Mrs. Evelyn Johnson also
of Winona; 2 sons, Doyle & Denton Garrett, both of Stewart; 2 sisters, Mrs. Mart Dees, Marianna, Ark.
& Mrs. J.B. Atkins, Kilmichael; 1 brother, George Crossley, Vernon, Ala., & 3 grandchildren.
