About Floyd Wayne Eiland:

Funeral services for Floyd Wayne Eiland, 72, were held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000 with the Rev. Emerald Wray and Rev. Charles Hyde officiating. Burial followed in Salty Cemetery. Mr. Eiland died Sunday, March 19 in Seaton Medical Center in Austin. He was an Austin resident for most of his adult life and had lived in Lexington from 1957 to 1963.

Mr. Eiland served Tx as a Registered Public Land Surveyor for the Tx Parks and Wildlife Department, and for three decades more, up until his death, as an independent land surveyor in and around Central Tx He was recognized as a Distinguished Texan in the 1973 ?Who?s Who of Tx? He also helped to lay out the Alaska Pipeline. Those who knew him will fondly remember his love for story telling. He was a member of the Christian Center Assembly of God in Austin.

Mr. Eiland was raised in the Gay Hill community. After graduating from Rockdale High School, he began college, then served as a paratrooper in the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended the University of Tx His boyhood experiences in the Tx farm and ranch country would forever shape his life. Though he settled in Austin, he loved returning to the countryside of his youth to visit with friends and family, and to tend his horses.

His lifelong interest in horses, cowboys and Tx history made great stories for the central Tx school children whose classes he loved to visit. In 1953, Floyd married Glorine Proske. Mr. Eiland enjoyed researching the Eiland family tree, and coordinated the 50-year reunion of the Rockdale High School Class of 1944 and numerous family reunions.

Born on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1928 near Tanglewood to Joe and Willie (Hazel) Eiland, he was preceded in death by both parents and by older brothers Vernon, Emory and Otis, and sister Anna Ione Pruitt. Mr. Eiland is survived by brothers Noland and Curtis, and sisters Avis Rae Yoakum, Edna Mae DuBois and Laura Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Glorine Eiland of Austin; two sons, Gregory and Stephen and wife Rebecca; and two daughters, Rebecca Ballard and husband Mark, and Stephanie Markham and husband Peter, All of Austin. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Forrest, Robin and Heath Eiland; Drew, Hunter, Theresa and Walker Ballard; and Lindsey Markham
