About Nancy Evelyn Overman:
Rockdale Reporter, Thur., 11 Sept 2003 Evelyn Caffey, 80, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, with her family
at her side.
She was born May 7, 1923, one of 10 children to Noah Hilliard Overman and Mary Josephine
Sides Overman, near the Oak Hill community, south of Rockdale. She was baptized into the Forest Grove
Christian Church at an early age. Mrs. Caffey attended schools at Oak Hill, Pleasant Hill and Rockdale.
On
April 3, 1940, she married James Alton Caffey in Rockdale. They soon moved to Houston where they spent
their working years and raised two sons. After their retirements in 1979, they returned to Rockdale.
Mrs. Caffey was active in her sons? school activities, becoming PTA president and an adult leader in
Cub Scouts. Later, she studied nursing and became a surgical nurse at Memorial Hospital in Houston until
her retirement in 1978. Upon her return to Rockdale, she was active with New Salem Extension Club,
becoming president of the club for a time and being chosen outstanding club member in 1989. Mrs. Caffey
was active with the club for more than 20 years. Her greatest love was her family?immediate, extended
and borrowed. She loved camping with her family and taught her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews
how to cook on an open campfire and enjoy all nature has to offer.
She is survived by her husband
of 63 years, James Alton Caffey; two sons, Charles Caffey and wife Margie and Stanley Caffey and wife
Nell; twin brothers, Edgar and Earl Overman; twin sisters, Nora Morris and Ora Moseley; three grandchildren,
Cindy Kralis, Scott Caffey and Gail Caffey; five great-grandchildren, Patrick Svoboda, Holly Caffey,
Cara Caffey, Allie Kralis and Jade Caffey; also, numerous nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.
