About John Durham Caffey:

John Durham Caffey. John was the range foreman of the Turkey Track Ranch. In 1891 he married Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Cunningham. When the Cheyenne-Arapaho lands in Oklahoma Territory were opened to white settlement in April of 1892, the Caffeys packed their possessions in a covered wagon and came to make the "run" for land of their own. John and his brother Shell staked claims along Mustang Creek. In October of 1892, their half-brother Jim came from the Tx Panhandle and filed a claim on the same creek. Mustang Creek became Caffey Creek.
