Melvin Zornes, pastor of the San Gabriel Baptist Church, officiated. Phillips & Luckey in charge of arrangements. He was BORN 8/20/1901 near Thorndale, the son of Guy & Virginia Pritchard Catchings. Married Miss Nora Hooper on 11/27/1921. The couple made their home near the Pleasant Retreat Comm. until 1949 when they moved to Austin where he was employed by the State of Texas. He recently retired and they moved back to Rockdale. Member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Guy and Roy Catchings. SURVIVORS: Wife, Nora Catchings of Rockdale; son, J.B. Catchings of Austin; 2 daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Muston of Rockdale and Mrs. Vivian Dolly of San Gabriel; 8 grandchildren; 5 sisters, Mrs. Mamie Caffey of Thorndale, Mrs. Viola Strickland and Mrs. Blanche Sheppard of Austin, Mrs. Estelle Edwards and Mrs. Esther Mullins of Sanford; number of nieces and nephews.
