About Shared Newton Parker:
In the middle 1840's, Sherod Newton Parker and Grace Caffey Parker were living at or near Box
Springs, Georgia. At some time near 1850, they moved to Butler County, Alabama. Sherod Newton Parker
is shown as being an overseer on the plantation of the Lloyd family. (Dr. Llyd was later member of
that family) The Lloyd plantation was on Old Highway 31, near the present (1959) site of Alabama State
Prison Camp. Sherod Newton Parker was called into the Confederate Army, in 1863. He was among those
captured by Federal troops and confined in the Federal Army Prison, near Point Lockout, Maryland.
He died there as a prisoner of war, in 1865. Sherod Newton Parker saw his youngest son Sherod Ezra Alexander
Parker only once. He had one furlough, came back to Alabama, saw this baby and other members of his
family. Later he was taken prisoner of war, and he died in POW camp the last year of the war.
