About Hooper Patrick Caffey:

Company C, 3rd AL. Appears on List of casualties, at the battle of Chancellorsville, VA, May 2 and 3, 1863 Remarks: wounded
Served with 3rd AL Inf. Was engaged at Gettysburg. Captured July 3 1863 and taken to Jacob Schwartz farm, which was being used as a field hospital.Right arm was amputated by J.M. Hayes, C.S.A. Died Sept. 13,1863 from exhaustion. Was initially buried at the Schwartz farm but on May 30, 1866 was reinterred into an unmarked grave in Lot 169, Sec. E in Evergreen Cemetery. A monument was errected in 1990 to Hooper Caffey and Metthew Goodsen, the only 2 Confederates buried in Evergreen.
Unit also called Lowndes Beauregards, Company H, of the 3rd AL.
