About George Washington Calton:
The following is from the "Laclede Co. History" book: GEORGE WASHINGTON (WASH) CALTON Noah and
Zilpha's son Wash (1870-1951) married Etta Massey (1877-1954) in 1895. Her parents were John and Ellen
(Lowery) Massey. Ellen's mother was born a Crittenden. A later Crittenden cousin became governor. These
families came from Kentucky. A probably related John Massey is recorded in an English record of migrants
in 1730. Wash lived all of his life on Park's Creek on land he and his father homesteaded in parts and
which was first mapped in 1872 on parchment still existing. Wash gave part of his land to the Pisgah
Primitive Baptist Church. He had a major part in it's building construction. He and Etta centered their
lives on that church. Their daughter Ethel (1896-1949) married Oscar Bramhall and lived on Parks Creek.
Their son is Ervin. Their daughter Austa (1899-) married Bob Johnson. Their sons are Robert, Gayferd,
Dale, Keet and Paris. Then she married Clint Looney. Their sons are Granville and Jerry. She has lived
mostly in Laclede Co.. Wash and Etta's son Ivan (1914-) is a retired colonel, a doctoral alumnus of
New York University, and a professor at Southwest Missouri State University. He married Ga York of Pulaski
Co, who is a paast president of the Missouri State Teachers Association. By: Ivan Calton Sources
