NOAH CALTON OBITUARY COPIED FROM WRIGHT
Co. PAPER (taken from CaltonFamily Tree 1981) Noah Calton was born in Tennessee on June 7, 1824 and
died March 9, 1917, aged 92 years, 9 months and 2 days. He moved with his parents to Missouri on his
youth. He was married to Mary Brake in 1843 and to this union was born nine children. All died in infancy
except Susan, wife of J.D. Jones, and D.H. Calton who passed away in 1909. His wife, Mary died in 1860.
He married Zilpha Caffee on December 5, 1861 and to this union was born seven children. He is survived
by his aged wife, five sons and three daughters: M.T.Calton, G.W. Calton, J.E. Calton, J.A. Calton,
N.E. Calton, Mrs. J.D. Jones, Mrs. Henry Hall and Mrs. G.W. Deckard, fifty grandchildren and thirty-three
great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the old homestead where he had lived for almost
sixty years, by Elder C.C. Agee of Springfield, Missouri. Elder Agee had been his pastor at the Primitive
Baptist Church, of which he was a member for a number of years. By request of his aged wife, six grandsons
were pall bearers: Wm. Calton, S.E. Calton, Elmer Calton, Everett Calton, George Calton, and W.J. Calton.
He was laid to rest on the homestead near the house, a site he had selected years ago. Uncle Noah, as
he was familiarly known to all, and his second wife lived together for more than fifty years and he
was the first member of the family to be called. He served almost four years in the Federal Army but
refused to apply for a pension, saying the government paid him for his services when he was discharged.
His death and that of his neighbor, David Smittle, take from us the last of the pioneers, who helped
to make the country what it is today. They are the last men who settled on Park's Creek, to pass away
and the last link that connected the early days with the present time. In his death, his wife has lost
a loving husband, his children, a kind father, and the community lost a neighbor who will be missed
but not forgotten. Written by a Relative.
