served as a Private in Co. G 6th Provisional Regiment E.M.M. (Missouri Militia) and Co. G 16th Missouri
Cav. Was taken prisoner at Buffalo, Mo in Nov 1863, apparently for desertion, and later paroled. Service
record indicates that he never mustered out OR was discharged from service. A statement is also made
in record that he 'has not been found on rolls' of the above military units. He received disability
pension for blindness, caused by measles, and rheumatism.($30 per month). Pension Certificate No. 982553.
He was living with Robert and Stella J. Moore at time of death. This was probably his son and his son's
spouse).
Obituary...One of Laclede Co. real old-timers passed away on November 18, (1929) when
C. H. Moore died in his home near Phillipsburg, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 10 days. Mr.
Moore was born in Tennessee on August 8, 1839, and came to Laclede Co. when he was 2 years old. Here
he lived the rest of his life, living over eighty-eight years on the farm where he died. The farm was
homesteaded by his father when he came from Tennessee. Deceased was a Union soldier, serving 4 years
in the Union Army. He was married in 1860 to Miss Elmira Caffey, who preceded him in death. To this
union were born ten children, six of whom are deceased. The four surviving are: S. K. Moore, Jr., the
oldest son, and Robert Moore of Phillipsburg; Mrs. Charles Krueger, of Chicago, and Mrs. Willard Allen
of Conway. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday Afternoon, the 19th in Spring Grove Moravian Church,
conducted by Rev. J. D. Chappelle, pastor of Lebanon Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Chappelle sang and
Mr. Chappelle preached from a text taken from John, 14:1-4. Interment was in Lonesome Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Moore had been a deacon in the Baptist Church for over thirty-two years. He was a faithful servant-faithful
to his country and faithful to His Lord.

Obituary...Another
of Laclede Co.'s pioneer women passed away May 28th, when Mrs. C.H. Moore died at her home near Phillipsburg,
aged a little more than 83 years. Funeral services were held at the Spring Grove Church May 30th
conducted by Rev. JW Jeffries. Burial was in the Lonesome Hill cemetery. Almira (should be Elmira)
Caffey was born January 13, l840 in Meigs Co, Tennessee and came with her parents to this Co. when only
a small child. She was married May, l859 to CH Moore who survives her. There are indeed very few couples
who live to see the sixty-fifth anniversary of their wedding day as did Mr. and Mrs. Moore. Ten children
were born to them, only four of whom are living, Samuel K., and Robert B. Moore, of Phillipsburg, Mrs.
Willard Allen of Conway, and Mrs. Charles S. Krueger of Chicago, Illinois. She leaves 31 grandchildren,
and 23 great grandchildren. Three sisters also survive. In l897 she united with the Salem Baptist
church and lived a faithful member until her death.
