Walnut Grove Cemetery
Newton County, Arkansas
Thanks go to Robert and Rosa Cline for their work on this cemetery information

This cemetery is located about five miles from the Madison county line. If you are coming from Madison County, you stay on Highway 21 and go into Newton County and follow that highway around the sharp corner (if you turn left you will go to Lost Valley and Compton) so stay on the highway and go another about a mile and you will see a sign for Boxley Baptist Church with several mailboxes. Turn right onto the drive/street and the cemetery is right there. There is the old Boxley Church still standing, the new church building and the pastor's house there beside the cemetery.
Coming from Russellville or Swain area, you will follow highway 21 'til you get to Edward's Junction, you will turn on the highway 21 as if you were going to Mossville. Follow the highway through Mossville and just a few miles farther you will see the sign for the church, you will turn left onto the drive/street for the cemetery.
This cemetery is sometimes refered to as Boxley Cemetery.

BAR

There are about 20-25 unmarked graves or marked only with a rock. (In a transcription done in 1986 they made a note of about 75 or so, but most of those were foot markers for graves out there.) In this transcription I will write exactly what was on the stone. Then if I know of extra information about that certain person under the transcription, I will put the information I know in ( ). So anything in ( ) is something I added, not something on the stone.
I've been told by Judy Tate that there are 3 graves outside of the cemetery. They were once 'marked' by a large Chiqipen tree and was by a fence row,..but that was many years ago.... these are those three. These names and dates came from a family Bible: Polly Ann Casey daughter of Miles H. and Rachel Edgmon Casey, born 1862 she was a child when she died. Rachel Rebecca Casey, daughter of Braxton and Polly Casey Edgmon, she was the wife of Miles H. Casey. She was born March 26, 1834 and died Jan. 17, 1863 Braxton Edgemon the son of Samuel Deatherage and Sally Percy Edgmon. He was born March 20, 1813 and died Sept. 6, 1864. He was killed by bushwackers.
