From the junction of Highways 27 and 164 in Scottsville, go northeast on 164 for 4.8 miles to the bridge over North Fork of the Illinois Bayou. Walk north up the old road to the old Clark Goates homeplace about 1/4 mile. The Forest Service has built a small food plot here that still has a walnut tree out in the middle. These two graves are located on the crest of the ridge above the creek. Mr. Epperson died and the creek was too high to cross to get to the cemetery. His wife died within a few days and was also buried on the old homeplace.

* These two graves are to your left when you walk into the food plot. When the food plot was built, the rocks marking the graves were pushed out and never replaced.
