Highlights of the 1950s Pete and Eileen, Bill's parents, bought a new, 1950, green Chevrolet. Nancy went to town school in Coon Rapids for the seventh grade, in the fall of 1951. Bill went to town school in Coon Rapids for the eighth grade, in the fall of 1952. Nancy played the piano very well, and took lessons in Carroll. She also played the Alto Sax in band, and sang alto well, as well. She was a very good student. Bill was still a bit of a "country bumpkin" - but made some advances that first year of town school. He sang in the choir, learned to play the baritone horn for band, and was a very good student. Both graduated eighth grade in Coon Rapids in the Spring of 1953 and entered Coon Rapids High School in the Fall of 1953. Many school activities... Discuss work experience... Both graduated in top 5 of their 1957 graduating class, Bill as valedictorian. Nancy went to Iowa State Teachers College, in Cedar Falls, in the Fall. Bill went to Iowa State University, in Ames, Iowa, in the Fall. Bill and Nancy married on 7 Aug 1959. We finished the decade with Annette on the way... |
