Williams the Iceman and his help, Coon Rapids, Iowa
This picture appeared in the Coon Rapids Enterprise of May 16, 1985, with the following caption: A long forgotten trade in the old days was that of the iceman, who delivered big blocks of ice to local folks so they could keep their iceboxes cool all year long. In Coon Rapids the job belonged to a Mr. Williams, who is shown in this photo with his equipment and help. Mr. Williams took large chunks of ice from the Raccoon River during the cold winter months and preserved it by packing it in straw and storing it in his ice house... which still stands by the river behind the Jack Alex home. (presumable Lem Williams)
