HOW TO CREATE SIMPLE WEB PAGES
Web masters who help train others to do their jobs help assure
that future generations will benefit from their services.
I taught myself to create simple web pages by using the HTML
codes used by other web masters. HTML codes help computers
display web pages correctly and are written inside <brackets>
to hide them from web page viewers.
- To make changes to this web page and view the HTML codes
used to create this simple web page, click on VIEW,
SOURCE in the bar at the top of the Micorsoft Internet
Explorer Browser (the advertisement tables placed by the
host provider at the top of this page begin with <center>
and end with </center> and can be delted or ignored
while scrolling down about half a page).
- NotePad will open this HTML file and allow you to make
any changes you like. Change some text written outside
the brackets. To create a new paragraph, type <p>
after its last word. Click on FILE, SAVE AS, and choose
the directory (folder) on your hard drive in which you
want to save the file.
- If you open the directory and click on the same HTML file
to open it in your Browser, you can see how the changes
you made affected this web page (if the web page is
already open, just click on VIEW, REFRESH).
- Observe how other HTML codes are used to affect the
appearance of this web page.
- Frontpage Express can also be used to create web pages.
- HTML files stored on your hard drive can be uploaded to servers (which allow other Internet users to view them) by loging in at http://www.geocities.com/, http://www.tripod.com/, http://www.myfamily.com/, http://www.homepage.com/, etc.
with your member name and password.
- Free web site providers often delete web sites unless a
small change is made about every six months: if you can
help by doing this job, please contact the web master.
HOW I CONVERT PRINTED DOCUMENTS INTO
HTML
- I use the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature of
Adobe Photoshop, etc. to scan printed text (in books, etc.)
documents.
- I do not use the scanner's OCR program to correct OCR
files because it is easier to editi them with Microsoft
Word.
- Microsoft Word's automatically generated HTML is so
superfluous and excessive that I save the Microsoft Word
document as a simple text document, then use WordPad,
NotePad, or FrontpageExpress to create my own smaller
HTML files.
- I transfer my HTML files to a server which is connected
to the Internet so others can view them as web pages.
