Notes: His surname is given as "Kissen" on the ship passenger list in 1883, which is incorrect. He immigrated at that time from the Caucasus (likely the Kuban Colony), Russia, per the Hamburg departure lists. He was living in Rusk, Oklahoma in 1903 . He travelled back to Russia in 1901 and returned in April, 1902 on the ship Grosser Kurfuerst. Later that year he again returned to Russia and returned to the U.S. in Febuary, 1903 with his niece Anna (Fast) Goertzen whom he eventually married . Margaret Goertzen's (b. 4 Apr 1927) records incorrectly state he was born in 1857. His death certificate incorrectly states that he was born in 1848, but correctly gives his age at the time of death as 66 years, 8 months, and 8 days. He is buried in Union Cemetery. His new style birth date was 21 Feb 1854.

From Peter's death certificate transcript that his parents were a John (Johann) Thiessen and a Miss Esan, likely meaning his mother was an Esau.

This is where I am not sure about the GRANDMA data. They have notes indicating that his mother is a Koop.

I found the solution for the confusion, she was born a Koop, however, her father died when she was 8. Her mother remarried an Esau, so, she was known as an Esau and as a Koop, depending on the source.

Also, looking at the Molotschna Colony data, there are several Thiessen's in the village of Sparrau, that do not seem to be in his family tree. This has always bothered me. It seems that in a village that small that the other Thiessen's would be relatives.
