NOTE from admin: BEEBE/PRUITT families joined with the marriage of my grandmother Floy Beebe with Henry Pruitt in Gainesville, Texas about 1906. My mother, Gladys b 1908 was the first of four children, Gladys, Cleo, Cornelius and Mollie.

Mother Velma Gladys Pruitt Kelly born December 25, 1908 lived until 1998. Her younger siblings all preceded her in death.

Our Beebe line came from New York, to Ohio, to Iowa, to Missouri, to North Texas (near Oklahoma) about 1900.

Artemessia "May" Pruitt b. Nov 1817 died Jul 03, 1903 Limestone Co., Tx Ga.
They were in 1850 Hancock Co., Miss. Gainesville District, 1860 in Freestone
Co, Tx, Cotton Gin, and in 1870 in Limestone Co Tx ,Eutaw
Children:

1. Rebecca (Beckey) A. Pruitt b.1838 Ala died abt 1899 Tx married (1) Mr.
Dunbar and had child named William S. Dunbar b. 1868 (2) Thomas Heayns
(possible spelling) preacher (3) George W. Whitman. b Sep 20, 1829 Marion, Perry
County, Ala died Aug 14, 1906 Fort Chadbourne, Coke Co, Tx.

2. Francis Marion Pruitt b. abt 1842 Ala and died after 1870 Tx. buried in
Lindley Cemetery outside, Mexia, Limestone Co., Tx No wife or children.

3. John Henry Pruitt b. abt 1844 Ala and died Aug 15, 1862 Little Rock,
Pulaski Co., Arkansas during the Civil War. Buried unknown

4. Louisa J. Pruitt b. Mar 20, 1846 Ala and died abt 1883 Limestone Co., Tx
buried Lindley Cemetery outside Mexia, Limestone Co., Tx married William Ira
Ware b. Sep 06, 1848 Tx and died Jan 01, 1892 Limestone Co., Tx also buried
at Lindley Cemetery.

5. Robert James Pruitt b. Mar 05, 1849 Hancock Co., Miss. and died Jan 09,
1911 Birdville, Tarrant Co, Tx. Buried in Old Alvarado Cemetery, Alvarado,
Johnson Co., Tx married Martha Elizabeth Black b. Nov 24, 1853 Cherokee Co., Tx
died Dec 28, 1930 Alvarado, Tx

6. Milton Ebenezer Pruitt b. Nov 11, 1853 Hancock Co., Miss. and died Aug
01, 1910 near Wortham, Freestone Co., Tx buried in Tehuacana Valley Cemetery
near Wortham, Tx married Priscilla Leeanna "Tude" Black (sister of Martha
Elizabeth Black) b. Jan 11, 1859 Tx and died Oct 14, 1938 Waco, McLennan Co, Tx.

Unfortunately I have no further info on my Pruitt line. This line has become a serious stumbling block. I know there are descendants out there that know the family history...I met some at a reunion when I was a kid...but no one now seems to be willing to part with their knowledge. I was just fishing with my previous post...using all my bait!

All I know is that my Pruitts were in the Shoal Creek area of Hart County, GA abt 1880. John W. Pruitt (b abt 1845 d 1904) was head of household. He was married to a Lucy ??? Their known children were--- (in order of birth)

...Charles and family farmed in Oklahoma ... moved to SC and then to FL as result of Dust Bowl & Depression of 1930s...Son Charles and family lived in TX.
-Dayton Richard (b 18 Mar 1889 d 1926)

This may upset the apple cart for the descendants of
William Pruitt who was born 25 Jul 1799 in Knox Co TN
and died abt 1879 in Dallas Co, TX. He was married on
20 Mar 1830 in Greene Co IL (per IL marriage index) to
Mary Powell. According to numerous researchers of the
Pruitt family, William had a son William Anderson
Pruitt who was born on abt 1828 which indicates that
William was previously married but there is no other
marriage record on file for a William in the mid to
late 1820's in Illinois.

According to the various census, all of William's
children were born in IL, supposedly in Morgan Co,
however, this is where I may be upsetting the apple
cart.

There is no William Pruitt living in Morgan Co IL in
1830. However, there is a William Pruitt who is
living with his wife and a child under the age of 5 in
Macoupin Co IL. The is no other William in the Pruitt
family who fits the criteria given in the census and I
believe that this William is the William who married
Mary Powell and his son William Anderson. There are a
couple of Pruitt families living in Morgan Co IL in
1830 but neither is William's parents and siblings as
they are in Greene Co IL. From this it may be that
William Anderson Pruitt was born in either Greene Co
or Macoupin Co rather than Morgan Co as many have been
under the impression for some years.

This William Pruitt is no longer living in Macoupin Co
IL in 1840. The Pruitt's were known to own their land
and in most cases the father would give some acreage
to his child upon marriage. There is no record of a
William Pruitt owning land in Morgan Co nor his father
Abraham. Abraham lived in what is now Jersey Co IL
when he died in 1832. The 1839 tax list for Morgan Co
IL only includes a David Pruitt who lived there for
some years and was born abt 1805, but this David is
not part of the Martin Pruitt family of Madison Co IL.

I don't have access to the 1840 Morgan Co IL census,
but from what I can it appears that William Pruitt may
not have lived in Morgan Co. Also if William Anderson
Pruitt is William's son then he is by a previous
marriage for which the search for his mother will need
to follow.

If someone has access to the 1840 census, I would
really appreciate if William Pruitt's family could be
located. The records should show the following for
the parents and known children -

2 males under 5
2 males 5-10
1 male 10-15
1 male 30-40 or 40-50
1 female under 5
1 female 5-10 (maybe)
1 female 30-40

Emmett Barzella Pruitt
January 28, 1911 to January 17, 2004

Emmett B. Pruitt, 93, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, in Ft. Worth,
Texas at a local hospital. Graveside service: 3 p.m. Tuesday in Smithfield
Cemetery in North Richland Hills. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet
Funeral Home 2301 N. Sylvania Ave. Ft. Worth, Tx.

Survivors: Son, Gene Pruitt; daughters, Jane Trusty, Judy Lisby and Sylvia
Witcher; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Note: Mr. Pruitt was the last surviving child of Henry Franklin Pruitt and
Susie Mollie Nash out of nine children. His father Henry Franklin Pruitt was
born and raised in Mexia, Limestone Co., Tx. Henry Franklin Pruitt father was
Robert James Pruitt who was born in Mississippi and is buried in Alvarado,
Johnson Co., Tx. Robert James Pruitt father was John Pruitt who is thought to be
from South Carolina and died in Limestone Co., Tx.

I'm brand new to the list and you guessed it...I'm looking for information.
My mother was a Pruet and we have her line quite a ways back. Just this
week, I found that I have another Prewett family in my tree. Here they are
in the 1860 Census of Rusk Co. TX. Does anyone know anything about this
family?

C.W. Prewett most likey had a daughter named Sarah Catherine Prewett who
married J.W. Stateham in 1855 in Rusk Co., TX. In this census she and her
husband are listed just a couple of lines away from the above Prewett
family. If anyone knows anything about this family, I would love to hear
from you.

I am researching my Pruitt Line. My Pruitt's traveled throughout Texas, LA,
OK, and AR.

My grandfather was Stinson Carroll Pruitt/Pruett, My great great grandfather
was James William "Jim or JW" Pruitt. I have all of Jim's brother's and
sisters but I cannot locate his parents.

My husband's ancestor was Nancy PRUITT who married Samuel LATTIMER in
1831.
Nancy's parents are Gholson PREWITT b 1787 in Mercer Co. KY and Frances
(Fanny) LEACHMAN
Gholson's parents are Anthony PREWITT b 1763 Lunenburg Co., VA and
Susanna
GHOLSON born about 1761 Spotsylvania, VA.
