GEORGIA

Thank you Charles. Your name Ingram is familiar to me. Perhaps we
communicated in years past. We believe the elder McGees Patrick and Mary
came to Habersham County with the Kelly family.....and probably settled land
nearby.

We know Kelly was still in Habersham 1833 when youngest son 3gfather Jessie
Kelly was born.

We don't know if elder McGees were still there in 1833.

It is neat to know that Elizabeth had a sister, though we always assumed
there were ciblings, and if I correctly recall, a John McGee lived near the
Kellys (county unremembered). Nevertheless I am interested in all branches
of the family and have an everlasting hope to flesh out the whole McGee
family in Georgia.

I have a website at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~donkelly/MCGEE/index.htm
where I keep everything I learn about McGee families, even unrelated McGee
families because we never know for sure, but may learn later.

Thank you again

It has been awhile since I posted about my McGee family.

Unverified is a family story that Patrick Stuart McGee and wife Mary
Speer/Spear were born in and later married in South Carolina. Whom their
parents were and where they came from and when they came is also
unverified.

Patrick and Mary were one set of my 4gparents and it has been alleged that
they died about 1840 in Cherokee County, Georgia.

It is verified that their first documented history was picked up in Burke
County, North Carolina. They were there in 1813 when their daughter
Elizabeth McGee married Hiram Kelly whom was born about 1789 in Burke
County.

Don, I grew up in Cherokee County, GA and my wife
is from the Elijah Owens and Rebecca McGee line.
We have Rebecca as the daughter of  Patrick and in 1830
Elijah and Rebecca were living next door to Patrick.  We
now live in Pickens County, GA about 15 miles from where
Elijah and Rebecca are buried and I have good photos of
their tombstones and a fairly completer family history.

I have not found Patrick in Cherokee County, GA but would
 love to sway data.

Hi,

Do you know who their parents were?

Do you know if Wiley McGee had a brother named named James, born in Georgia about 1826?

Do you know if Elza had a sister named Epsy, born in Georgia about 1829?

One of the McGee's -

Josiah McGee found in the 1830 Crawford County census is of primary interest to me. I am interested in all the others too because they are probably related to Josiah.

I have Josiah Magee in the 589th GMD, Upson County in 1840 and then in 1850 and 1860 in Bibb Co. Alabama with wife Nancy. His birth place was shown as "Maryland" in  approximately 1777. Nancy was shown as born in "North Carolina" in approximately 1786.

I believe this couple married in Hancock Co. Ga in 1807 and was listed in Jones Co. Ga in 1820. I also believe Josiah was a son of Davis McGee and Penelope Shockley of Maryland.

Hi,
I'm searching for parents and siblings of Joshua Kelly b. about 1805 KY.  He
married Catherine Martin b. about 1817 Ky.  They moved to Boone Co., MO.
sometime before 1837 which is when their first child was born.  Their
 children are:  Sarah b. abt 1837; Eliza b. abt. 1839; David b. abt 1841;
Robert b. abt 1844; Andrew Thomas b. July 15, 1847; and possibly Nancy b. abt
1853.  Does anyone have these people?
 Thanks,

Don,
I did a quick check on the Heritage Quest connection through the Sonoma County Library and did not find more information. I'm working my way through the stuff I copied in Salt Lake and using online sources to check for related information. I don't seem to be progressing very far getting the stack of papers off the desk and into the file cabinet.

The Sonoma County Library has subscribed to Heritage Quest online. I can access it at home by keying in the bar code from my library card. They do not have all the census posted yet but they have done a great job with the ones they have posted. They are much easier to read than either film or Ancestry. I have not had time to check through the books they have posted.

You might check if a library in your area has subscribed to Heritage Quest. I understand it is expensive, but it certainly expands the research opportunities for the library patrons.

I'll let you know if I see anything else of interest. I have been working on Joseph Kelly's inlaws and that has been very productive. I'm trying to get everything entered before I leave for my Johnston Family Reunion in Texas. I'll go to AR after the reunion and spend some time doing research there. I'm anxious to follow up on my discovery of the two Malinda Kellys. I only found the family in 1870.

My list of things to do keeps growing. I think I'll need another life time to work through it all.

Anyone researching the McGee's in Crawford, Talbot, & Newton Co, GA just to name a few Counties? Mine is Wiley & Eliza (Price) McGee, 1840 Crawford; 1850 Talbot; 1860 Muscogee; 1870 Hancock; 1880 Newton Co's. I'm trying to find the parents of my Wiley McGee (1817-aft 1880). I do see a lot of other McGee's listed in the 1830 & 1840 Crawford Co, GA Census' but I do not know how they connect to each other. The McGee names in those Census' (such as David, Joseph, & Theoplius); match with the names I have throughout my McGee/Chandler Line so they must connect somehow. Hi Jonelle   Some info I have found as to Hiram Father    We have on the 1790 Census  Burke Cty NC  Alexander Hamilton Kelly with one Male over 16 and 2 under sixteen and 2 females no age, same page we have Benjamin Kelly with 1 Male over 16 and 3 under 16, and 1 female and then William with 3 males over 16 and 5 under 16 and 3 females   I cannot find them on 1800 or 1810, but do have Patrick Mcgee on Burke Cty 1800 and 1810   And of course we pick up Hiram and Alexander, Rueben,   and a James on 1820 and Alexander and a John on the 1830 in Burke   There are several Benjamin's all over the State of NC but none in Burke Cty    I always believed that Hiram was Benjamin's son cause he never name a son Alexander, but did name one Benjamin, the only Alexander comes in as a middle name for a Grandson but I have no proof    I do believe that Benjamin and Alexander are brothers, by the 1790 census and Poss William is an older brother, Uncle or maybe Father, But again  no proof    By the 1790 census all three of the men could be Hiram's Father    I would like to see the will of Alexander Hamilton Kelly's will i believe he died between 1830 and 1840 in Burke Cty     Another Interesting point on the 1840 census of Hiram in Georgia is the Male over 90 and the Female between 70 and 80 is that the McGee or Poss Hiram Parents     Well that's enough to question for the evening    How are you doing?  Planning any trips to SLC?     Let me know and I might meet you there and we can ponder this mystery together    Hope to hear from you soon   Tom

Any help will be appreciated........"DU"

----------------------------------

Hiram Kelly is listed in the 1830 Habersham County Georgia Census on the page following following the McGee’s.  I’ll extract the census information from Ancesty.com this evening. Some of the names in this message are found on Family Search.

I found a James McGee born in Ireland with a daughter named Rebecca born in Burke County, GA.

The IGI has the 24 Feb 1825 marriage  of Anna Magee and Abel Anderson in Habersham, GA

Ancestry.com  Georgia Death Records  shows the 25 Dec 1946 death of an Abel Ancerson in Cherokee County, possibly a decendant of  Anna and Abel Anderson.

The IGI file has Hiram Kellys from 1845 through 1978.  Some I recognize, some possible, but it is going to take some serious research time to sort through.

My current project is to trace the families listed in my database in through the census.  Ancestry has not indexed all the census as yet.  I have some information in my notes and some I’ll just have to read the census.  It is only time, right, but if you have any state, county, page numbers etc. send them along to speed up the process.

I'll report later.
