NOTE: So far no documentation of brothers/sisters of Hiram, but
we know there were siblings, families lived close together, and clues have
started flowing in. That is good.

Hiram Kelly who is the focus of my research appeared in census and

My assumption is that Hiram may be a family name used in a number of
generations.

several years lated my note give an 1887 date, butIbeleive that is a typine

record. Ihave not confirmed what happened to the widow. There is
a rumor that she remarried and then divorced, butIhave found no record to
confirm that as yet.Ithink land and property records may provide the key to the identity of
Hiram's father. He may be named in a probate file or in deed records. if
the father died prior to Hiram. As an hier it is likely that he
would be requred to sign papers before or at the time the father's estate was
sold..Ihave committments for the next week and it is not likelyIwill be able
to do any research for a few weeks. Ihope this information is helpful
answering your questions.

Need info on the Kelley Family of Old Fort, North Carolina up to 1850.
Need Parentage and siblings of Armor Kelley of Old Fort, North Carolina.
He lived on Waters of Mill Creek, near the old Methodist Meeting House.
He later went to Union County, Georgia. Could his Father have been
Alexander Hamilton Kelley? Any information will be appreciated
I don't know yet if this will be helpful tying our lines from GA
back
to NC. Isuspect that the father of Joshua C Ellis may have been
William Ellis. Iam currently going through data in Cherokee and
Forsyth County GA searching for a connection. Joshua C sold his land in
Cherokee County before he is listed in the 1850 Census of Forsyth
County. Following this message is the Burke County NC land patents.
There were a number of Hiram Kelly's listed in the NC census in
the
early 1800s, however one of these may be our Hiram.
Patrick S. McGee is the name given by previous researchers as the father
of Elizabeth McGee. AsIrecall both the Kelly and McGee families are
shown in Habersham County GA census records at the same time (I think
1830).
I am including some of the census data from the Burke County NC, but I'll use
Ancestry.com and read those. Ialso checked the marriage books on the
Burke County page and found Hiram Kelly and Elizabeth McGee listed.
WhenIchecked the brides index there are two other McGee brides who
could be Elizabeth's sisters.
While in Salt Lake CityItranscribed some GA deed records. Iam
attempting to find some additional information to connect Joshua C and William
Ellis. There is a William J Ellis showing up in the land records.
Something may eventually connect them. I'll keep trying. Iwill
study the copiesIhave for any clues and my next search will be for probate
records.
While in Salt Lake,Ialso copied some AR deed and probate records. The
recordsIthinkIneed were not copied by LDS. I'll check with the
Genealogy Society in Madison County about possible films of these books. Icopied all the data from the index done by Desmond Walls Allen and can perhaps
employ some one to visit the courthouse and copy the material for me. Idid find some recordsIhad not previously read. They provide dates and bits of
family history.
I'll keep you posted asIfind new information. Ihave some confused data
to clearup in one of the Madison County lines. I'm searching the web
tonight for more data on our AR kinfolk and I'll call Willie Bohannan tomorow
morning and ask her some questions. She has all the Madison County
Genealogical Society publications and she'll check everyone of them for
information. When she learns new information on a family she writes it in
the margins of the books.

The copies of the information from Cherokee County County
Marriages
1849-1858, p. 237 copied from FHLS film #325922 was in the mail I
received whileIwas at the FGS Conference in Ontario CA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The autorization for the marriage was issued 11 Feb 1854. The
statement from John T Tomlin, JP states, "I do certify that Jesse K
Kelly and Elizabeth Ann Richards were duly joined into matrimony by me
this 21 of Febury 1854."
The record was entered 4 Jun 1854. by James Jordan
Ordinary
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I noted that the record is for Jesse K Kelly. While there may have been
another Jesse Kelly in Cherokee County in 1854,Ithink it is more
likely that the person entering the information in the marriage book
mistook the an R for a K. It seems to me highly unlikey that there
would be two Jesse Kelllys both marrying Elizabeth Ann Richards.
If you have a conflicting record please let me know andIwill continue
searching for additional supporting information.
-----------------
The other researchIrequested related to Elizabeth M (Kelly) Monroe,
daughter of Elizabeth and Hiram Kelly born about 1819 in Burke County,
NC. Iwas provided data indicating she is buried in Sons Chappel
Cemetery in Washington County AR. Forsyth County, GA marriage records
her marriage 1840 to Thomas Monroe. Ibelieve there is also a GA record
of a deed transfer from Hiram Kelly to Thomas Monroe. My file
indicates this couple were the parents of nine children. born beteen
1843 & 1863.
My friend found a Washington County AR record where Fanny L Monroe
presented evidence that Perry D Monroe had died intestate in Washington
County AR , 7 Mar 1880. Fannie L Monroe, widow; Thomas L Monroe; and
Fannie K. Monroe were named heirs-at-law. The record also includes
the
coordinates for real property in Fayetteville and Washington County and
additionally personal property valued at $25.
This record is not a concrete indication that this is the family of
Thomas and Elizabeth (KELLY) Monroe. There are some sound clues, if my
records are correct. Thomas and Elizabeth had a son Thomas L born about
1848, and their youngest son's name was Price born about 1863.
Additional records may exist, andImay even have some in my notes. I
have not had time to review the file, butIwanted to pass on this
information.
Not all of the AR records are on film in the Family History Library. I
may not be able to move forward with this family untilIcan make a trip
to AR or afford to pay a researcher to search those books for me.
I would appreciate any related information you can share. Idid not
have opportunity to read my email whileIwas at the conference, and
ofcourse the household mail accumulated as well andIhave not yet
unpacked all the personal and society items from my car. I'll work my
way through all the mail and chores and pass on any informationIlocate
whenIcan snatch some time to go through my notes and files.

I'm still reviewing my files for the "AR Homecoming" and found
some informationIhad not reviewed for a couple of years. Ifound a 1998

her source for this butIfound this census on Ancestry.com using the direct

30 Mar 1792 Iredell County, NC, Patrick McGee was witness for a deed.

Jil suggested that Elizabeth, James, Anna, and Rebecca may be
children of Patrick S. McGee. We seem to agree taht Elizabeth is the
daughter of Patrick McGee.
1840 Census Hiram Kelly was in Cherokee County, as were Joshua
and Sarah (Kelly) Ellis.
I thoughtIhad extracted the Owens in 1840 but Idon't see the page here
on the desk.
1850 Hiram Kelly was in Forsyth County with his second wife
Malinda. and their two daughters.
1850 Joseph, Benjamin, Andrew Kelly, Thomas Monroe, and an Elijah and
"Isabelle" Owen andIbelieve Able Anderson were all in
Cherokee County
1860 Hiram and Joseph Kelly, and Joshua Ellis were in AR Ihave read GA Census for 1860 but did not do extractions. Idon't have time
to do more before leaving for AR.Iam not ready to say that Anna and Rebecca were sisters of Elizabeth McGee
butIcan see it is possible. Perhaps more evidence can be found. Iwonder if there is a probate in Habersham county for Patrick's estate.

Hiram Kelly is listed in the 1830 Habersham County Georgia Census on the page
following following the McGee’s. I’ll extract the census information
from Ancesty.com this evening. Some of the names in this message are found on
Family Search.Ifound a James McGee born in Ireland with a daughter named Rebecca born in
Burke County, GA.
The IGI has the 24 Feb 1825 marriage of Anna Magee and Abel Anderson in
Habersham, GA
Ancestry.com Georgia Death Records shows the 25 Dec 1946 death of
an Abel Ancerson in Cherokee County, possibly a decendant of Anna and Abel
Anderson.
The IGI file has Hiram Kellys from 1845 through 1978. SomeIrecognize,
some possible, but it is going to take some serious research time to sort
through.
My current project is to trace the families listed in my database in through
the census. Ancestry has not indexed all the census as yet. Ihave
some information in my notes and some I’ll just have to read the census.
It is only time, right, but if you have any state, county, page numbers etc.

Alexander and Benjamin, were both in Burke,
in the 1800 Census. Walker thinks that they were brothers. One of them could
have been Hiram's father. Walker assigns Hiram to Alexander, Mrs. Manley,
thought that Benjamin, was Hiram's father.Idoubt that we will ever have

Anyway, on Hiram, he was listed on the 1830 census for Habersham

There were 4 Hiram Kellys in NC from 1840 to 1870 that were on the
census. If it is the same Hiram, he seems to have purchased land in
Fayetteville AR on 01 Feb 1860. there show to be three instances of
land purchase by this Hiram on that date at that location.

In 1775, he was in the Snow Campaign under Col. Richardson and the
following

I copied this message from the Burke County NC list.
Hiram Kelly and
Elizabeth McGee posted their marriage bonds in Burke County NC.
Based
on the evidenceIhave they moved from NC to GA about 1828.
However after our Hiram and Eliazabeth were in GA, census records list a
Hiram Kelly, blacksmith living in Old Fort.
Willie Bohannan told me her grandfather, Joseph Kelly was a blacksmith
and she believed Hiram was also a blacksmith. She believed that
Hiram
had been killed because he would shoe horses for anyone who ask,Ihave
no evidence to document Hiram's death. He died in 1862 and Joseph in
1863. The oral history indicated Joseph was killed by bushwackers.
I read the probate file for Hiram Kelly, but the final page was
missing. That is the page which should have listed his property and
possesions. It occured to me recently that LDS might have filmed the
records before the page was lost. Iplan to check for that in Salt
Lake
City next month.
Back to this message, the Hiram Kelly in Old Fort could be father,
grandfather, uncle, or cousin of our Hiram. Some research in
McDowell
County might turn up something.

Pleasant Gardens is now located in McDowell Co., NC, being part of the
land taken from Burke Co. in 1842 to form McDowell. It is located about
half
way
between Old Fort and Marion on old Hwy. 70.
On the 1790 Burke Co., NC census online, the group denoted as 1st
Company are
those who were living in what is now the Pleasant Gardens area, first
settled by "Hunting" John McDowell.
Hope this helps you.

This site offet a lot of historical information about Burke

Land. WhenIchecked the Alpha listIdid find Hiram Kelly, and Patrick
S. McGee. There is also an entry for William Ellis, whomIsuspect is
the father of Joshua C Ellis. Isuppose we might be able to contact

interesting to know the location of the land. It is still too early in

would like. Me to, just let me know.
Also asIam looking, there is a small copy of information on John Kelley
from the family bible of Hiram Kelley. It shows the page of the bible but
small, butIcould also enlarge the print and try to email to you. It
states
that John Kelley b. 7-4-1814 in Old Fort had 6 children: Mary, Ellen,
Lucinda, John, Billy, and Charles.
There is also a pic of Mary J. Kelley and John Allison, Mary is Hiram's
daughter. There are also copies of 3 pages of John Allisons bible.
yes, there is much confusion on who Armer (Armor) 's father was for sure.
Maybe one day we will get this all figured out. Armor is my 3rd Great

Where in this mess do you fit in? Nice to talk to another, new found cuz.

Hi Cousins,
The following data was obtained through a link posted on the Burke

location and close proximity of these entries it may be a clue to
relative of our Hiram Kelly.
I will not have opportunity to research this before late fall. :-)

Hiram had 4 sons. 1-Bemjamine, 2-Joseph,
3-Andrew, 4-Jesse. #3 Andrew was the father of James, whose sister was
Mrs. Manley's Mother. By the way, Hiram spelled the name Benjamine, which is
a reason to suspect that Hiram's father was Benjamin!

Sara parents were Thomas Sheffield b:1803 NC, mother Nancy Bush

Daniel Kelly Trant father was James Trant b: 1788, Warren Co., GA
.
His parents were John Trant d: Warren Co., GA 1799, whose wife

James Trant married Rebecca Kelly b: SC 1798. Believe her father
to be Daniel Kelly born in Ireland, township unkn.
Marriage settlement signed in SC of Daniel Kelly, Jr. Married Ann

Settlement signed by three members of General Francis Marion's

My grandfather James Monroe Kelly b: 25 Jul 1862 (bros. John,

who had moved to Dale Co., AL. He married Mary Frances Trant, 5th

We don't know if James Trant had bro/sisters nor if Rebecca had

From Bill and Linda Walker......possibly connected in
1700's to OUR N.C. Kelly line.
Appreciate the information provided by the Kelly Cousins. We are
setting up a time-line for our line in an effort to connect to
your line.
Alex Ham Kelly (probably Alexander Hamilton Kelly), William Kelly
and Ben Kelly traveled together and are probably brothers. The
issue is to find which one was our direct ancestor.
For clues to which one we look to the children of Sarah Caldwell
who named one son Alexander Hamilton Caldwell, a Kelly tradition
for naming children.
Another question is when did our ancestors come to America. In
the 1880 census of Union Co. N.C. we find Sarah and Armor Kelly
who both claimed father born in Ireland, mother born VA. So it
figures that these particular Kelly brothers arrived in Virginia
after 1775 (probably 1780).
Alexander Ham, youngest of the brothers, probably came around
1780. The three brothers left Virginia sometime after 1780 and
slowly worked their way to Burke Co., N.C. There were other
Kelly's probably related in Rutherford and Mecklenburg Counties.
Children of Alexander Hamilton Kelly, possibly numbering six to
eight; Alexander Jr. 1781 - 1785, John 1785, Hiram 1787, James
1790's, Armor 1802, Sarah 1803. More may have been born in the
1790's.
NOTE from Don: The Hiram Kelly brother was born same year / same
county as our Hiram Kelly. Our records do not have any
information about Hiram's siblings, but does record Hiram's dad
as Alexander Hamilton Kelly.
There our two sets of records differ wildly. Here is what we
think happened....and am trying to proove or disprove: A familyIheard while young is that three Kelly brothers came from
Connacht, Ireland....not substantiated.
Second, our Alexander Hamilton was traced to his birth in 1755 in
King and Queen County, Virginia....right time and place anyway.
What this means is that their Alexander Kelly born around 1780
and married in Virginia after 1780 probably are not in the same
Kelly line.....by extrapolation if nothing else, yet anything is
possible including building two families from one set of records.
There are too many coincidences here to ignore, including the
fact we have Caldwells on our side of the family to.
Thanks to Bill and Linda Walker.... [email protected]

reader may provide further information.
