CALUMET 11/27/02
Hi Mike and all other Kelley/Kellys reading this. Maybe
someone can help me
with my wall. I cannot trace my Irish line back past my GGrand Parents,
John Kelly (1816-1874) and his wife Honora Harrington (C'EBAGH)
(1821?-1895). They brought their family of 10 boys and 1 girl to Calumet,
MI about 1867. He had been a copper miner in the Allihies Mine in
Castletownbere, Co. Cork, Ireland. Their older children (1842-1856) were
born in the townland of Coulagh Ard and Coulagh, Eyeries Parish. The 5
youngest children (1859-1866) were born in the townland of Cluin, Allihies
Parish. According to Johns death certificate his parents were Con and Mary
Kelly. I think Honora's parents were Timothy Harrington and Helena
Sullivan. She may have been born in Dunnaway, Cork, Ireland.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thank you.
James R. Kelly

My great, great grandfather MICHAEL KELLY and wife, HONORA are
listed as
living in Barry County, Michigan (1870 MICHIGAN CENSUS RECORDS} and having
8
children, being born in Michigan, from 1855 to 1869.
Michael and Honora born in Ireland:
Michael was born abt. 1827
Honora abt. 1836.
The childrens names are given as Elvira (?) 15, Mary 13, Katine (?) 11,
Thomas 9, Maggie7, Michael 5, William 3, Frank 1 and all born in Michigan.
If I read information correctly the Michael Kelly's migrated to US
somewhere
around 1852-53. When they moved to Michigan, I don't know.
I do know they
had a farm and it was listed as being worth around $6,000 in 1870.
They were Catholic and my grandfather's full name I am told was
William
Timothy Aloysius who married my grandmother, Mary Engle in 1890.
William at
time of marriage listed Colorado Springs, Colorado as his address.
Would like to locate Irish roots and where and when my greatgrandfather
died. He was a Chicago motorman at the time of my father's
birth. They
lived in Chicago, how long, I don't know. His wife was left a widow
with
four sons and she raised them in Hastings, Michigan.

Hi All,
Looking for anything on Wm. James Kelly who was 38 yrs old in 1860
census for Emmett TWP, St. Clair Co., MI. Married to Margaret Morrisey
and at that time had John, 5yrs, William 3yrs and Mary 6mos, (my
grandmother, Catherine, came along in 1862). It was said that James went
away to the Civil War and never returned. In his wife's obituary it was
said he died on October 1, 1865. She had removed to Iowa in 1865. It is
possible James enlisted/was drafted from Iowa and not Michigan. All
leads thus far have turned up zip.
Thanks for reading.
