FROM CONNAUGHT TO NORTH-EAST US THEN SAN FRANCISCO:

Subject: Margaret Kelly Gavin

My grgrgrandmother was Margaret Kelly and she married Michael Gavin.  I don't know what happened to Michael but   Margaret came to San Francisco with many of her children and they all settled there.  They arrived via Roscommon>Boston>San Francisco.  Her children were Michael, (who stayed in Boston), John (who went to New Hampshire), Patrick (my great grandfather), Margaret, Mary, James, Bridget and Thomas. Patrick married Ellen Griffin who was from Rahara right near to Knockcrogery from which the Gavin clan came.  All of these last sibs are buried in Holy Cross in Colma, Ca.  Does anyone know of a Kelly family with a daughter Margaret who married a Gavin  in Roscommon and immigrated to America?  We have been looking for many years and can't come up with even a clue.  Margaret was in Boston by mid 1850s.  We think she was born around 1800.  They came to California in 1859/60.  It is possible that there was a son Peter Gavin who might have stayed in Ireland. That name keeps popping up in the Knockcroghery area at the same time that my family was there. Thanks.  Dorothy O'Connor

I am looking for the parents of;

Lizzie (Elizabeth?) Kelly born Mass. abt 1857
James Kelly born Mass. abt 1866
Maggie (Margaret Kelly born about 1855 Mass.

I believe that both parents were dead before the 1880 census as all three
were living with Maggie's husband Edwin Spencer in Worcester Mass. The census
shows that the parents were both born Ireland.

Thank you for you interest.

John

I am looking for information, especially parentage and
place of birth in Ireland, for Francis G. KELLY. He
was first sighted in the US in Suffolk County, MA in
1860, married to Mary GLENNON, with a babya daughter,
Mary KELLY. Mary and Francis had two more children in
MA, Robert Emmett KELLY (1862) and Thomas Francis
KELLY(1864), and then moved to Chicago by 1870. In
Chicago, three more children were born, John (1866),
Kate, or Annie, unsure of the official name(1868) and
then William(1872). Sometime between 1872 and 1880,
Francis G. KELLY died. The family moved to East St.
Louis by 1890. I have lost track of the entire family
but Thomas Francis, who died in 1904. The only info I
have gleaned from census records on Francis is that he
and his parents and his wife were born in Ireland and
his approximate birth year is 1825-1830. If anyone has
any info on these KELLYS: Francis G, Mary, Robert
Emmett, John, William, and Kate/Annie, please contact
me! If we are kin, I have PICTURES of all of the
children in the 1880s.

DONEGAL, WALTHAM, MA

07/05/04

Hello all,
Although  I have been a member of this list for about 4 years, I never
had enough information to submit to 'Your Most Wanted Kelly"!

Just a few month ago, I discovered my Greatgrandmother, MARY KELLY,
was born ABT. 1828, in Donegal, Ireland.
Her father was JAMES KELLY  of Donegal, and her mother was ELLEN McCUSKER,
also of Donegal.

MARY KELLY  married RICHARD GORMAN     [perhaps of Limerick or
Kilkenny] about 1846, however PLACE of marriage, and DATE/PLACE  of entry to
US are unknown, at this time.  Possible places might be  Charlestown, MA;
Belmont, MA.  and eventually, WALTHAM, MA where RICHARD GORMAN, and several
children are buried, later in the century, in Calvary Cemetery.

Also, RICHARD GORMAN'S mother was JOHANNA [Mirtell] GORMAN,  who died at 99
years of age and is also buried in WALTHAM, MA. She was also from "IRELAND".
Mary [Kelly] Gorman, was a STRONG woman.  She buried several children,
while her husband was living, then her husband , who died in 1888, in
Waltham, Massachusetts, and several adult/ unmarried children after that.

Kate 'KELLY' Gorman, my GRANDMOTHER, was born in Waltham, MASSACHUSETTS,
 on February 10, 1871.

I have no more information on the KELLY family,  or the GORMAN family.

Does anyone have any KELLY's of DONEGAL, IRELAND, who might have come to
MASSACHUSETTS  around 1845 or before?

I don't know if any KELLY'S  besides MARY KELLY came to the United
States, BUT a JAMES KELLY[FATHER/OR UNCLE]   was a Godfather to their FIRST
child, MARY KELLY [ who was born in Cambridge, MA in 1848. ]

I think I included too much this time, but if anyone can sort
through it, I would love to hear from you;                            Thanks,
Lyn Walton

From Oldham, England to Fall River, Massachusetts about 1860:

Searching for Thomas Kelly, born between 1855 and 1865, Oldham,England.

Thomas married Mariah Knight in Fall River, Mass. about 1880.

Their children were:
Anne, 1881, Geneva 1884, and Thomas.  Mariah is living at home with her mother - in Fall River - in the 1900 Federal Census, no sign of Thomas.

Does this elusive family sound familiar to anyone?  Were there other Kelly families in the Oldham area?

Thank you for any assistance,  Paula   [email protected]

Subject: David O'Kelley, OKelly, O'Killia etc. etc.
I have been researching the line of Richard Kelley (m to Maria Gibbs in 1775)
for many years and have been quite stuck. I have inquired to the
Kelley/Kelly list several times without luck. I have gotten nowhere until I
went to original (and hard to read/find) records themselves. Apparently I
was the victim of false info and a 19th century coverup. You see, family
tradition has it that Richard Kelley came to America on a ship from England,
and that he was in fact English.

Much painstaking probing has proven this story quite wrong. Richard was in
fact born in Barnstable, Mass. to Benjamin O'Kelley and his wife Mary (a land
record). As it turns out, Benjamin is the grandson of the famous (in
Kelley/Kelly circles) Irish immigrant David O'Killia through his son Benjamin.

As most of you know, the 19th century was quite intolerant of "the Dirty
Irish" and I believe my ancestors chose to forget about their Irish roots.
The story was concocted that they were in fact descended from Englishman. I
believe that still later when my family genealogy was starting to be
researched, the English story was uncovered, and a well meaning researcher
attributed the "English immigrant" story to Richard since he proved to be
quite an illusive stumbling block for info. (In fairness to my Irish
descended ancestors, a lot of Irish families made up the same "English
Descent" story for survival. Irish were banned from most establishments, and
jobs were with held from Irish people).

Since I am now researching David I have read several articles that have
listed David O'Killia as the son of Mac Tiege O'Killia and Anna Daly of
Galagn Ireland.

Thanks to Mike Kelly of Australia - I can set the record straight: his
parents are named John McTiege (son of Tiege) O'Kelly and Anna Daly of
Galagh, Co. Gallway, Ireland. I now have John McTiege's pedigree back to
Adam & Eve.

Since I am fairly new to the David O'Killia arena, I am requesting any info
on him and his descendants I can find. Land Holdings, Stories, Occupation,
Books, articles, etc..

Any help would be appreciated. Please only reply with info or questions.

Mike Kelley

Dear All,

My Kelleys begin with Alexander Kelley born circa 1680 probably MA.  He and
his brother, John were Trustees for Edward Hopkins of Hopkinton, MA in 1720.
This family lived in Hopkinton, MA, Londonderry, NH and Groton, MA.
Alexander had at least two sons, Richard born circa 1700 and John.  Richard
had Richard Jr who left Hopkinton and moved to Dummerston, VT circa 1773.
Richard Jr had William born 1751, Alexander born 1755, Samuel born 1760
Hopkinton, MA.  They all had large families who lived in Windham, Windsor and
Bennington Counties VT from 1773 until about 1820 when most moved to Western
New York.  Later, several branches of this family settled MI.

Does anyone know anything about this family?

good morning scott first, thank you for your efforts to increase our knowledge of David O'Killia et al. (your postings of June 29...David Parts One and two) I must say, I almost cried with joy when I saw that you had the info I've been searching for for over 6 months tying my Patrick into the David line. But then I reread your disclosure statement at the top that said: "Note that a portion of it reflects the information posted recently by Jim Kelly and others. I have not attempted to verify it.....' I decided to hold my horses, stop jumping around , and write to you to see if you knew whether the Patrick data has any foundation...It goes like this: David had Jeremiah(1670) Jeremiah had Eleazor(circa 1696) Eleazor had a "Patrick" (1723) I got this info off the latter day saints web site. I've been trying to prove that this Patrick is the same one that I am descended from. Mine went like this: Patrick, Patrick Jr, Patrick III, Dorcas C. Kelley They all were born in Harwich , Mass. but I never had a birthdate for the Patrick Sr. Do you have any info or ideas that could help me substantiate this connection???? thanks tons for your time Cheryl (of many Patrick's) ==== KELLEY Mailing List ==== If you have problems or questions about the KELLEY/KELLY list, please contact: Paula Kelley Ward (listowner) at: [email protected]
