Subject: [KELLEY-L] Kelly/kelley

I am searching for any information that someone may have in regards to my
great, grea, grandfather  Daniel Kelly. I have a copy of a census dated
August 11th 1870  that shows  he and my great grandfather James A Kelley and
 my grandfather Daniel C.Kelley.
The 1870  census identifies them living in Nineveh Township, Indiana with the
post office shown as Edinburg, Indiana. This is the information listed:

 Daniel Kelly---age 58 ----occupation---day laborer-----place of
 birth----Kentucky
 Susanna Kelly (wife)--age 58----occupation---keeping house---place of
 birth--Kentucky

 James A Kelley---age 38---occupation--farming---place of birth---Indiana
 Martha J Kelley (wife)--age 24---occupation--keeping house---place of
 birth---Missouri
 John R Kelley---age 9----place of birth---Indiana
 Andrew J Kelley---age 3---place of birth---Indiana
 Daniel C kelley---age 3 months old---place of birth----Indiana

There are other Kelly's listed on the same page of the census that I assume
are some relation also, and they are:

William Giles Kelly age 29 ---born in Indiana
Mary Kelly (wife)  age 29----born in Indiana
James Kelly age 14--born in Indiana

Chauncey Kelly age 24---born in Indiana
Mahala (wife) age 23---born in Indiana

I would appreciate information about any of the above individuals.

Subject: Terry W. Kelly

I may have sent this in before, but as you know, hope springs eternal.  I'm
looking for information on my paternal grandfather, Terry W. Kelly (Terrence
 William Kelly, I believe.)

He married my grandmother, Mary Fiskin, in Indianapolis, IN in 1892.  There
they had two sons, Hugh William (1893) and Francis Terrence (1895.)  They
next turn up in Cincinnati, Ohio where they had a third son, James Gordon
(1901.)  On the birth record, the father is listed as "butcher."  Sometime
shortly thereafter, Terry Kelly disappeared.  My father, the second son, did
not have any memory of his father.  The other two sons died early leaving a
son to James Gordon (James Kelly), and two sons and a daughter for Hugh
 (Richard, Robert and Ruth.)

I would be greatly appreciative if anyone could provide any information on
 this illusive grandfather.

Subject: Most Wanted Kelly

Hi Don,

We are looking for "Kelley". What we know:
Edward J Kelley of Androscoggin County, Lewiston Maine, a tinsmith by trade, married Ellen Simmons of Bangor, Maine. They moved to Lowell, Massachusetts and had the following children: Marguerite, who married Larry Caratelli; no children

Edward Henry, born December 14, 1898 in Lowell, Massachusetts, married Mary Rowan, born September 4, 1900 in Boston, Massachusetts; they had four daughters;

Daniel, (never married) who died many years ago but attended Boston College majoring in Greek and Latin and then worked for the Boston Post;

Eileen, who married Timothy Donovan, they had one child who died shortly after birth and Eileen died in 1952-53 in Boston;

John P Kelley who married Mary Finn and resided in Roslindale, MA. Their children are Marie, Edward, Barbara, Kathy and James.

We know that the family lived on Ashley Street in Jamaica Plain, Mass and also on Woodside Ave, same city. At some point Edward J., the father, worked at the Naval Shipyard in Boston. All the children of Edward and Ellen are deceased.

We know that John was an engineer and so was Edward (my father). Edward went to the Lowell Technological Institute; he worked for Studebaker in Indiana and then came to Detroit, MI and worked for the Chevrolet Division of General Motors until his retirement. Edward died in 1972.

This is all we know and we are having a terrible time finding anything about Kelley or Simmons in Maine. We think our grandparents were married in Maine but so far have had no luck finding much because we know so little to start.

Glad you have the website. Thanks a million.

My Most Wanted Kelly is Terry W. Kelly (my fraternal grandfather.)  I believe
that his full name is Terrence William Kelly.  He married my grandmother,
Mary Fiskin, in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1892.  In 1893 they produced their
first son, Hugh William Kelly.  In 1895 my father was born, Francis Terrence
Kelly.  The family story is that sometime thereafter, Terry Kelly
disappeared.  My grandmother took her little family to Cincinnati, Ohio in
the belief that she would find him there; he was supposedly from Cincinnati.
The last official record I have been able to find is from 1901, the
Cincinnati Health Dept.  It was the birth of a third son, James Gordon Kelly.
The birth was recorded on a 3" X 5" file card.  It listed the father as T.W.
 Kelly, butcher.

I have been looking for my Kelly antecedents for about 30 years, and would be
delighted if someone were able to contribute to this search.

My gggrandfather, Jonathan KELLY emigrated to Canada from Tyrone abt 1818, settling in Quebec. There seems to be no trace of where in Tyrone he came from. Names of his seven sons, in birth order, are James, Robert, Jonathan, Thomas, George, Samuel, Joseph. He married in Canada Sarah Jane BATES who was also from Tyrone.

Am looking for the parents of my grandfather James Monroe Kelly/Kelley. James named his oldest son Marion Franklin and there are other Franklins in our family as given names. I have two lines of Kellys, since James married his cousin Mary Frances Trant whose grandmother was Rebecca Kelly born SC. Rebecca's father was Daniel Kelly supposedly from Ireland and shows in records in SC and in Warren Co., Ga in 1805 in tax records. Both the Trant/Trent and Kelly/Kelly families were in Wilkes Co. and Warren Co. at same time. James mother supposedly was named Martha and when she died James father remarried. James had brothers Thomas, John and Frank and a sister if this passed down info is correct. James father was a gunsmith and was killed by an inebriated customer. Does this have any connection with your family?

Looking for information about the origins of Martin Kelly, probably born in County Galway around 1818. He came to the US in the 1840s and settled in Portland, ME. He married in 1848 to Mary Nee (Needham) and had several children. In 1867 he moved to Lewiston, ME and stayed there until he died. His first child was Michael and next was Brian.
