The following is the information I have collected on Samuel-2 Beebe. While I have documented sources for each factual statement, the format here in GenForum does not permit the use of footnotes. If you would like information on any source, just
    e-mail me.

Samuel Beebe (John-1) was born in Broughton, Northamptonshire, England, and baptized there on 23 June 1633, at the Parish Church of St. Andrew. He was the son of John Beebe and Rebecca Ladd. He was twin to his brother Thomas.

He came to America in 1650 aboard the "Speedwell," with his parents and settled in New London, Connecticut, where he had a land grant dated 2 December 1651. He was a farmer, and owned several large parcels of land.

He married first AGNES-2 KEENEY, daughter of William Keeney; and then second Mary _______, who was born in 1639. There is some confusion surrounding the identification of his wives. The last name of Keeney has been applied to both Mary and Agnes. Caulkins, in her "History of New London" assigns him as his first wife Agnes, daughter of William Keeney; but, where she writes about William Keeney she states that his daughter Mary married Samuel Beebe. In his Beebe entry, James Savage gives the name of his first wife as Agnes Keeny, daughter of William, and mentions that he had a second wife Mary; but in the Keeny entry, he fails to mention an Agnes and instead gives his wife as Mary Keeny. Keeney may well have been his second wife's name, since a deed recorded at New London and dated 8 May 1716, was from Mary Beebe, now resident of Colchester, and relict of Samuel Beebe, late of New London, deceased, and conveyed to Samuel Fox of New London land "originally granted to William Keeney." On the other hand, it may be that the land was brought to the family by Samuel's first wife, became part of his estate passing to his second wife on his death. Another source notes yet another plausible explanation for the confusion in names; it suggests that Mary and Agnes were actually sisters. This is not an implausible explanation.

In any event, Samuel and his wife (or wives) had several children, all born in New London:

    Samuel b.c. 1661 m. Elizabeth Rogers
    Susannah b.c. 1663 m. Aaron F[?]tain
    William b.c. 1665 m. Ruth Rogers
    Agnes b.c. 1667 m. John Daniels
    Nathaniel b.c. 1669 m. Elizabeth Wheeler
    Ann b.c. 1672 m. Thomas Crocker
    Jonathan b.c. 1674 m. Bridget Brockway
    Mary (Mercy) b. 6 October 1678 m. Richard Tozer
    Thomas b.c. 1682 m. Anna Hobson

He probably moved to Plum Island, off the northeastern tip of Long Island in Suffolk County, of which Savage stated he owned the "chief part," and died there early in 1712 at the age of seventy-nine. Administration of his estate was granted on 6 April 1712, to his widow Mary and his son Samuel, of Southold, Suffolk County, Long Island. His wife died at age eighty-six on 9 May 1725.
