Going through family keepsakes, we discovered a late 19th century photo album, originally owned by Etta Marie Root (later Hobbs) of Yates and Kenyonville. Etta's mother, Charlotte Platten Root, died in 1887 when Etta was only 7 years old and her older sister Arminda ("Minnie") was 14. For the next few years, the girls lived with various aunts and uncles in Orleans County and in Michigan. About 1902, Etta returned to Orleans County for good, marrying Edd Hobbs of Kenyonville.
This album appears contains mostly portraits. Most of the portraits that we have identified so far appear to be related to her mother's Platten family of Yates and Ridgeway in Orleans County, and their relatives that moved to Michigan. Although we recognize some of the individuals in the album, we would appreciate any and all assistance in identifying the rest. If you would like to see a larger version of each picture, please click on the picture or the name. Enjoy!
