One descendant reports Andrew was b. 1685. In 1782 son Gilbert returned
to Ireland and brought Andrew to America

* Gilbert McKown b. 1726 probably Ireland, d. 1803 buried Gerrardstown WV
Gilbert, wife Lady Jane, and son James, emigrated from Ireland. They
arrived at Delaware Bay, and settled in York Co PA about 1755. Later
the family moved to what's now known as Gerrardstown WV. Gilbert and
his father built houses in Gerrardstown, now Historical Homes.

Moved back to PA where he may have married Phoebe, returned to VA
and about 1787 moved back to Green Co PA. In 1814 they travelled
across PA to the Ohio River, got on a flatboart with the Crow and
Stone families, floated down the Ohio to (now) Jackson Co WV and
settled on Lower Mill Creek a few miles from Ripley. Family Bible
was lost on this trip.
Rev. War service: entered Sep 1776, marched from Jackson Co where
he was living to Pittsburgh, ambushed by Indians while going down
the Ohio River, wounded in left thigh, spent 14 months recovering
and was not in the Battle of Brandywine as some sources say
