* Robert Ferrier
  b. abt 1746 probably Ireland, d. 4 Jan - Mar 1820 Giles Co VA
     Supposedly of Scotch-Irish descent; however, some of his family lived
     in France in the 1500's. Surname was originally Farrier, changed to
     Ferrier after he immigrated to VA. 1778 listed as private 5th class
     from VA in Revolutionary War, served under Captain's Jonathon McClure
     and John Gilcrest of Lancaster Co. PA Militia. Went to Ireland sometime
     before 1785, returning sometime before 1787 to Botetourt Co, VA. It's
     presumed while in Ireland he inherited a large sum of money, because
     when he returned he purchased several tracts of land in 1800. Moved to
     Giles Co VA sometime after 1813.

           Moved to Platte City MO abt 1840 and became a wealthy slave
           trader, and bought and sold many lots in Platte Co. He lost both
           businesses as a result of the Civil War freeing the slaves. He
           moved to Des Moines, IA 1867 and was a merchant, later moving to
           Cass Co IA 1870 and took up crop farming

           census was taken for Steubenville, OH. The first woman school
           teacher in Des Moines IA. She and two of her three children
           were listed in the 1900 IA census for Council Bluffs

              1900 a "Justice of the Peace" in Council Bluffs IA. Later was
              wealthy merchant, had several large businesses in Philippine
              Islands before World War II. As a result of the War lost his
              vast fortune
