My father Parce Henry Deese Jr. was born February 18 1923 in Matthews
North Carolina to Parce Henry Deese Sr. and Janie Lee Manus. At the age
of 16 he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps he served as a
laborer /camp digger at Camp Deer Creek California for 5 months and was
honorably discharged. He later joined the Navy where he worked as Cook,
a Tailor and finally a Barber (he never had an schooling as a Barber
but even at the young age of five he would stand on a stool and cut
peoples hair for a penny). Due to the fact that he was an excellent
Barber he was never sent overseas Admiral Reed thought highly of him.
He became a Chief Petty Officer he was stationed in Virginia and also
New York City where he met and married my mother May 4 1946. After six
years he decided to leave the Navy and then later New York City they
moved to Buffalo, New York where he had his own Barber Shop on Main
Street and Delevan for about 16 years, where he was known as Hank the
Barber he had quite many customers some that moved away but would make
the drive back some as far as 90 miles. Also a well known Monsignor
who would fly back from NYC.
