He was famed for his bravery having been with his father in the fight off Block Island and he took an active part in the Pequot War. For his courage in this struggle he was honored by the general court with a grand of land. The order reads:

 

"A session of hte Generall Court, Held in Hartford, October ye 12th, 1671.

 

"John Gallop is granted a Hundred Acres of Land for his services in the Pequott War, provided he take it up where it may not prejudice any former grant granted to any plantation or particular person.

 

"A true copy of Record, examined.

 

"Per Hez. Wyllys, Secretary."
